TEICH, Abraham Hirsh 'Hershel' - Abraham Hirsh Teich (also known as Hershel), died at age 86 on November 27th, 2020, in Toronto.
He was born on December 2, 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Hershel was predeceased by his beloved sister Rhona (Ron) Lazar, parents Ena (Cheena) Glassman and Joel Teich, grandfather and grandmother Aaron and Michle Glassman, and aunts and uncles Golde (Bentzi) Lantzman, Eda (Jack) Rosenthal and Chana (Chaim) Telchen.
Hershel will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Annette (Bush) Teich, loving daughters Laura (Paul McInerney), Deborah (Bill McCormick), grandchildren Talia and Daniel McCormick, David and Ian McInerney, sister Penny (Eric Bowman), brother Ira (Janet Star), nieces, nephews and friends.
Hershel was an adventurous man. He grew up in a single parent household where there was lots of love but little money. Hershel did everything from roofing to surveying to pay for his university education. He was fortunate to meet his wife Annette when they were teenagers. They married when she was 19 and he was 21. With Annette’s encouragement Hershel went on to do a PhD in Agriculture at Iowa State University. They also lived in Israel – twice.
Early in his career as an agronomist, Hershel worked at the Petawawa Forest Experiment Station in Chalk River. Later he spent many years working as a wheat breeder at the Agriculture Research Station in Harrow. There Hershel created several varieties of wheat which he named after people he loved: “Ena” (named after his mother), “Annette” (named after his wife) and “AC Ron” (named after his brother-in law).
Hershel was a loving and affectionate man, and with age, he saw only perfection in his children and grandchildren.
Arrangements entrusted with STeeles Memorial Chapel. Due to COVID, a private graveside service will take place. Shiva will be private.
