CAMANDONE, Dr. Mirta Dora   - Mirta Camandone died peacefully in her sleep, aged 79, on November 27, 2020.

She was the generous and caring mother of Sebastian Cohen and Luciana Calvet (Marek Rudzi?ski) and a loving abuela to Clara.

Fondly remembered by her former husband, Carlos Cohen.

Mirta was born in the tiny village of La Palestina in Cordoba, Argentina.

Her father was a horse trader, her mother the principal and teacher of the schoolhouse.

Passionate about education, Mirta graduated as a teacher in Argentina and obtained a PhD in Filología Románica from the University Central de Madrid, Spain. In 1974, Mirta and her family immigrated to Toronto.

Realizing her academic career through the University of Toronto, Mississauga (formerly Erindale College), Mirta was a professor and a distinguished scholar of Spanish poetry, recognized for her intellectual brilliance, original research and publications, notably Escritura sin Fronteras.

A brave two time cancer survivor, Mirta focused much of her energy in later years on projects expressing her boundless creativity and on travel.

Her love for culture saw many hours spent at local and international venues. She equally delighted in creating and sharing meals, surrounding herself with those she cherished.

Deeply loved, she will be forever missed.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Mirta's life will take place in 2021.
