Paterson JosephPATERSON, Joseph Donald  -  January 8, 1935 - January 25, 2021

Joe was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and could accomplish anything he set his mind to.

As a young lad, he was very active in sports, with boxing and soccer among his favorites.

Joe served 3 years in the Royal Navy Reserve in his late teens.

At the tender age of 20, Joe set sail for Canada, carrying only a trunk of his personal belongings. He settled in Toronto and began his career with The Toronto Police (Badge 350) eventually retiring as Sargent Detective after 33 years.

While on the force, he enjoyed being a member of the Police Pipe Band as well as soccer on the police team.

Upon his retirement, Joe spent winters in Panama City, Florida, and also traveled to numerous countries. Joe's interests were gardening, fishing, and birdwatching, with hawks and goldfinches being his favorites. He loved sports and enjoyed watching the Leafs, Blue Jays and his beloved Glasgow Rangers.

Joe was also a fan of casinos, a good show and a good dinner. Joe had a wonderful sense of humor which was demonstrated in his participating in skits or sharing funny emails. He also liked to say "Some guy named Elvis Presley was born on the same day as me."

Passing on the great Scottish poet, Robert Burn's birthday, Joe would surely have a quip to share. Joe is survived by his children, James, Joe (Marcia), Kristine (Dave) Giguere; grandchildren Kyle (Melissa), Jennifer (Colin), Noah and Nathan; great-grandchildren Bodhi and Piper.

And his dear friend Helen Burke. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Brenda, and sister Cathy Smith.

In keeping with Joe's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
