Wong CharlesWONG, Charles Richard Cheekow - We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Charles Richard Cheekow Wong on March 1, 2021 at the age of 67, from complications due to colon cancer.

Charles is survived by his sons, Andrew Wong and Michael Wong; his mother, Marie Therese Wong; his brothers, Edward Wong (Brenda), Peter Wong (Mary), Christopher Wong (Veronica), and William Wong (Rosita); as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and nieces.

Charles was predeceased by his father, Hei Yuen Wong.

Charles was born in April 1953 in Tanzania. Charles spent his first years in Kenya before moving to Hong Kong where he attended Raimondi College. He then graduated from George S. Henry Secondary School and attended Ryerson University in Toronto before moving to Edmonton, Alberta. In 1977, he met his future wife, Betty Fong-Weyland; they then married in 1986. His sons were born in 1988, and 1990. After divorcing in 2001, Charles settled in Scarborough, Ontario to be closer to his family that resided in the GTA.

Throughout his life Charles was an avid traveller, going across the globe to visit his family and friends, and to experience different food and cultures. He travelled extensively throughout Asia, including multiple trips to China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

When he was not travelling you could find him catching up on current events in the daily newspaper, completing complex crossword puzzles, or enjoying a soccer match on TV. You would also find him attending mass at St. Aidan’s Parish on a regular basis.

Our family is eternally grateful to the care staff at Scarborough Grace Hospital for the dignity, kindness, and respect that they provided for Charles while he was in their care. We are also very thankful to the staff at Providence Healthcare Centre who took great care of him in his final days.

Funeral and livestream arrangements are entrusted with Kane-Jerrett funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
