Nummi IiroNUMMI, Iiro Juhani (John)   -  1933 - 2021  Iiro passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in Toronto, with his family by his side.

He leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Maija, beloved children Peter Nummi (Karen) and daughter Pia Nummi.

Adored Vaari to Jessica, Kyle, Sofia and Ava.

Survived by brother, Jukka Nummi and extended family in Canada and Finland.

Iiro was born in Rauma, Finland.

At age 25, after completing military service and business college, Iiro travelled to Canada. Soon after, he met Maija-Leena Ikävalko.

 

They married in May, 1960 and built a long, happy life together. A career as accountant and consultant with the Finnish (Toronto) Credit Union, Vapaa Sana Press Ltd., (Board member, Chairman and President, 1982-87, 1992-97) and Bobot & Yurichuk CA.

A passionate volunteer for the Toronto Finnish Language School, Agricola Lutheran Church, Toronto Finnish Lions Club and member of Canada Finland Chamber of Commerce, Sisu Athletic Club and The National Yacht Club and founding Board member of Suomi-Koti Seniors Residence.

In 2000, the President of Finland bestowed upon him the distinguished honour 1st Class, Order of the White Rose of Finland, for his outstanding involvement within the Finnish community.

His happiest moments were always with family and friends at the cottage on Clear Lake, Stanley Beach or at the helm of a sailboat.

A memorial service at Agricola Lutheran Church to celebrate his 88 years of life will be held at a later date.
