DUBÉ, Bernard - It is with great sadness and many fond memories that we share the loss of Bernard Dubé, 72, dearly loved father, brother and friend, who died suddenly in March at his home in Ottawa, of a heart attack.
Bernard (Bernie) was born in Halifax on February 2, 1949, to Lucy James (Burgeo, NL) and Gérard Dubé (Saint-Paul-de-la-Croix, QC).
Bernard was a devoted father to Zack and Shaina, now living in Ottawa and Calgary, respectively, of whom he was immensely proud.
Bernard grew up in Halifax and Joliette, QC, later moving to Montreal, where he attended McGill University.
It was in Montreal that he met his former wife, Ottawa artist Audrey Churgin.
A skilled fly fisherman, Bernard taught her how to cast from the balcony of his apartment.
They moved to Ottawa in 1983, where Bernard worked for many years as a technical writer.
Bernard also studied boat building in Nova Scotia and helped build a Cape Islander and a cedar strip canoe. He wrote an unpublished novel. He was a contributing and senior editor at Arts and Opinion magazine.
He is survived by his five siblings and their spouses: Jules (Jacqueline Barrette), of Joliette; Mary Jean Litwin (Barry), of Toronto; Janet (Pierre Lorrain), of St-Jérôme, QC; Francine Kopun (Charles), of Toronto and Debby Gill (Randy), of Almonte, ON, as well as many nieces and nephews.
We will miss his exuberant spirit, his wit, his laugh and the love he lavished on all of us.
