Demopoulos TulaDEMOPOULOS, Tula (nee Borovilos) - Tula Demopoulos (nee Borovilos) passed away on April 18, 2021, She was born on February 27, 1940 in Cabbage Town, Toronto.

Tula dedicated all of her life working within the Greek Orthodox Church in the Toronto area, energizing the Ladies Philoptohos at both Saint George Greek Orthodox Church on Bond Street, and as the long-term President of the Ladies Philoptohos at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

In her many years of dedicated service, she helped many new Greek Canadian immigrants, offering a helping hand to anyone who reached out for aid, or who required support.

From the early '60's to 2015, she was a pillar of the Greek Orthodox Church, keeping people together and uniting them in serving her Church and community. Her outgoing personality and strong work ethic were invaluable in making Saint George the hub of the growing Greek Community. Tula acted as the interpreter for many new Greeks newly emigrated to Canada after World War II. She was one of the few at the time who had been born in Toronto, and spoke and wrote fluent English because she was a straight A student at Eastern Commerce High School. She was the bridge between her parents and their new country Canada, with her father being from a small village in Nestani Archadia, and her mother from an island in the Dodekanisa called Kastellorizo. Her father Tom and her mother Helen instilled in her a love of community, service and the Greek Orthodox Church.

In 1962 Tula met a handsome gentleman who had just come over from Kozani in Greece, Apostoli (Paul) Demopoulos. He fell in love with her at first sight as she sang at the Saint George Choir and asked for her hand in marriage on their first date. He continued to ask for her hand thereafter and would not stop until she finally accepted with great joy! They married at St. George's and raised two children, Nick and Elana.

Tula worked diligently and helped build a New Greek Church in Scarborough called Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. She was a dynamic force in rebuilding the church from the ashes into one of the largest Greek Orthodox Churches in Canada. She was the President of the Ladies Philoptohos for over 15 years, and led many successful charity events and causes. There she made some lifelong friendships, and inspired many in the Greek Community.

She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and daughter and most cherished Yiayia.

Beloved by all for her ready smile, quick wit, compassionate nature, kindness, and willingness to serve her community, she was a dynamic and generous soul who will be greatly missed. Tula is survived by her son Nicholas, her daughter Elana, daughter-in-law Effie, her grandson Apostoli, and her brother John Borovilos and sister-in-law Anita - and their children, her nephews and niece, Anastasios, Alexa, and Adam. She is also survived by her many cousins and their children, her best friend, Becky who was always there for her, and many more close friends and family in Toronto and the USA.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Apostoli, and her parents Anastasios and Helen Borovilos.

May Tula rest in eternal peace and in the arms of her beloved husband, Apostoli, and be reunited with her parents and all her dear friends and family who predeceased her.

As a result of Covid-19, a private funeral service will be held on April 23rd at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Arrangements entrusted with Ogden funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be forwarded to her beloved Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where she devoted life-long service.

The family would also like to thank all of Tula’s caregivers, most notably Fe, who provided her with exceptional care and companionship. Tula, we will always love you and will deeply miss you.

THE Lord bless you bless you and keep you;
The Lord lift his countenance upon you.
and give you peace.
A passage from one of Tula’s favourite Hymns – Lord Bless, you and Keep you.
