Johnstone IanJOHNSTONE, Ian Webster   - Peacefully on April 19, 2021, at Scarborough General Hospital.

Cherished father and mentor of Rachel (Dave) and her son Duncan (Hayley); Adam (Jessica); Daniel (Karen) and their children Brandon and Shannon; Naomi (Rick and his daughter Grace).

Predeceased by his beloved wife and companion, Linda (nee Cassell) and sister Gabrielle "Gay"; survived by brother Craig (Cathy), niece Hannah, and nephews Luke, Matthew, and James.

Born in Canterbury, England in 1939, Ian attended Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Faversham and later studied philosophy at the University of Nottingham.

It was there that he met Linda.

Married in 1963, they both took up careers in the relatively new field of Information Technology at ICL Nottingham, for a short time sitting at facing desks.

In 2015, Ian was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), which medication kept in remission until early 2021.

Following several months of declining health, the leukemia, together with a complexity of cardiac and other chronic illness, finally overcame the intrepid scholar.

His family offer their sincere thanks to the physicians and staff at Scarborough General Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to either Scarborough General Hospital or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.

A private cremation has been arranged.

A celebration of Ian's life will be planned at a future date, when family and friends may gather to raise a toast and exchange memories.
