MACKAY, Mary Elizabeth - (September 11, 1921 – April 21, 2021)

It is with great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Mary MacKay of Thornhill, on April 21, 2021, at Caressant Care, Woodstock.

Mary was born in Niagara Falls to John B. Hopkins and Mabel Hopkins (Tait).

She is reunited with her husband of 61 years, Jack, who predeceased her January 2009.

Lovingly remembered by her daughter Janet (Bill) Thompson and son Ian (Sandra), grandchildren Mary, Mike, Bob Thompson (Micaela Karvola) and Mark, Kristen (Dan Giovinazzo), Lindsay MacKay (Dave Groeneveld) and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gabe, Jackson, Carter and Peyton, and sister-in-law Margaret Hopkins.

Predeceased by her brothers John and Tait Hopkins and sister-in-law Florence, and by brother-in-law Stanley (Marge) MacKay.

Mary attended Niagara Falls CVI and graduated from Victoria College, University of Toronto.

She met her husband, Jack, in Niagara Falls. Mary and Jack moved to Thornhill in 1953 with their family and lived on John Street for 44 years.

After retirement, they enjoyed an active life at their condo in the Gazebo and, in later years, Mom at Glynnwood Retirement home. Mary was amazing support to our Dad as he pursued his career at Shouldice Hospital. Her involvement in our education, activities and sports was greatly appreciated.

Thornhill Presbyterian Church was a cornerstone of Mom and Dad's lives where they formed many lifetime friendships.

If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to the Thornhill Presbyterian Church (tpchurch.net), Diabetes Canada, or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place and inurnment is planned for her September 100th birthday at Thornhill Cemetery, Covid regulations permitting.
