Sammut EmmanualSAMMUT, Emmanual - After a long battle with Alzheimers, we are sad to announce the passing of beloved husband and father Emmanuel Sammut on May 1, 2021 at 79 years of age.

He died peacefully with his loving wife Rita by his bedside and visited by his children.

Emmanuel's first priority was always the care of those closest to him.

Born into a financially burdened family in Malta, having lost his father at 6 years old, with his siblings, he helped to support his widowed mother Emmanuela.

Growing up, he’d become a well-known soccer player in Malta, earning the nickname “IL-Qonda”.

He followed his true love to Toronto, Canada in 1965 to build a new life together and would go on to celebrate almost 55 years of wedded bliss.

Emmanuel is cherished by not only Rita but his proud children Terry (Isabelle), Joanne (John DeLuca) and Jeffrey (Rebecca Anas), grandchildren Liam & Rachael, Jennifer, Jesse, Anthony, & Mena, Lucas & Jacob and great-grandson Kyrie.

Emmanuel was also a loving brother to many siblings and in-laws as well as proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

His family is grateful for all of the kindness, compassion and care Emmanuel received over the last number of years from: His family physician Dr. Linda Klapwyk, geriatrician specialist Dr. Marissa Zorzitto, care teams from West Neighbourhood House Adult and Extended Day Program, Toronto Ride, LHIN/CCAC care coordinators, home care support PSWs and volunteer Julia Weir from Parkdale Golden Age Foundation, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and more recently St Joseph’s Hospital emergency department and 3L general medicine wing.

A special thank you to those who cared for him at his home since October 2019 at West Park Long-Term Care Centre Humber/ York Wing.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Emmanuel’s name to Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto.
