Alleyne Meta OlinaALLEYNE, Meta Olina 'Lina' - (October 25, 1934May 5, 2021)

Meta Olina Alleyne was commonly known to her family and relatives as Lina.

She was born in Drakes Land, Barbados. When her mother passed away, she was raised by an aunt and a grandmother.

In her younger years, she had a son named Herbert who was left in the care of her relatives as she travelled to England to become a Nurse. She did well in nursing and from the pictures and the discussions we had, she loved her job and excelled to the extent of the role as “Sister”, which we refer to as “Head Nurse” in a mental hospital.

At some time during her nursing career, she wanted to see other countries here in North America and looked for a change. She travelled to the United States and lived with an aunt and worked there for a short time. However, our impression was that she did not like living in the U.S. She then travelled back to England and she made a second trip, this time it was here to Canada; she liked it here and stayed.

After settling in, she sent for her son Herby, who was still attending high school in Barbados, on an athletic scholarship to live with her here in Canada. After unsuccessful attempts to work in a hospital setting here in Canada, she attended George Brown College to get herself familiarized with the Canadian system, which was quite different from the English system, when it came to recognizing her credentials. Of course she was not pleased about having to return to school after having achieved her credentials and more importantly, her nursing expertise.

She applied to Fudger House, a home for the elderly. During her working years she was well respected and was recognized for all the years she had work there. She had a good relationship with the staff and the patients. She was responsible for supervising the floors.

It was during her years at Fudger that she cared for one of the patients whose daughter was so thankful for the care that was given to her mother, that after her mother had passed away, she and Lina became friends for life. They travelled to various places together wthin Canada and Barbados to meet her family who were still living there. The bond between them was like sisters and more importantly, they were both Extremely fond of cats. Her name was Urve and she was a music teacher. Even though Urve got married in her later years, their relationship never changed. Sadly, we are unable to get in touch with Urve to inform her that Lina has passed away; but we will continue to try to locate her for Lina’s sake.

Lina’s only son Herbert passed away suddenly in 2008. She has two loving grandchildren all grown up, Ezra and Tyler Alleyne. She also has three great grandchildren, Sheriffe, the oldest boy and Lylah, soon starting Grade 1 and Laniyah in Kindergarten and their mother Jenny as well. To the grandchildren, she is commonly known as G.G. (great grandmother). To her we say, we love you G.G., rest in peace.

She was also a member of the Church of St. Peter and St. Simon.

In lieu of flowers, the Alleyne Family would appreciate any or all donations to be sent to the church, Attention to Rev. Michael Perry (647-526-4393)

A private family service for Lina will be held at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home on Friday, May 14th and can be livestreamed on the funeral home's website at 3:00 p.m.
