Dickson SpenseDICKSON, Spence   - February 7, 1942 - May 10, 2021

On May 10, Spence passed away at Emmanuel House Hospice with his wife at his side.

Thus ended a 4 year struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Spence was the beloved husband of Susan Harrison, dear father of Lisa (Kevin Hutchings) of Prince George, B.C. and Scott (Heather), grandfather to Wayland and Lily of Nelson, B.C., big brother of Dawna (Steve Milstein) of Whistler, B.C. nad Denise Murphy of Pickering, loved brother-in-law of Tom Harrison and Maureen Brennan of Montreal.

After many years working at the WSIB, he retired to pursue a variety of activities; driving a school bus, delivering mail in rural Shelburne, learning to fly, guiding blind cross-country skiers, coaching running… and most of all, just running for the sheer joy.

By the time PSP began to affect his body, he had run over 40 marathons.

A longtime friend of Bill W. Spence was noted for his warmth, generosity of spirit, humour, storytelling and love of animals. He will be missed by all who knew him, as well as his dog Eddie. His family thanks the wonderful staff of Emmanuel House for their caring and always going the extra mile.

Cremation has taken place. Hopefully, we will be able to gather in the fall to share some of our favourite Spence stories.

If you wish, donations in his memory may be made to Emmanuel House c/o Good Shepherd Centres, Hamilton, ON. https://www.goodshepherdcentres.ca/services/emmanuel-house-hospice-palliative-services/.
