Ryan DesmondRYAN, Celine Mary (nee MONAGHAN)  -  On May 5, 2021, at the age of 92, Celine passed away peacefully.

She was born on January 25, 1929 in Smiths Falls, ON to the late William and Anna (Hale) Monaghan.

Celine was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Philip Stephen Ryan (2011).

She is survived by her children Margaret (Bruce) Penniston, Susan (John Mader), Jane (Brian) Lindsay and Greg (Geraldine Stack), her beloved grandchildren Michael, Erin, Janet, Caitlin and Kiera, great-grandson Odin and her sisters Margaret (Elwood) Lackie and Sandra (George) Wyman. She was predeceased by nine siblings.

Also survived by many loving and much-loved nephews and nieces, and numerous friends.

Celine grew up in Smiths Falls. She loved riding horses, ice skating and all dogs.

Celine was a great storyteller. One such story was talking about her early work as a Bell Telephone operator, helping to cheer up the returning WWII troops who would call the Bell switchboard just to hear a woman's voice.

She was a born artist who loved to paint and particularly encouraged her children and grandchildren to use the artistic talents they inherited from her, as well as her love and empathy for animals of all kinds.

Throughout her life she was known as a caring person who made everyone feel welcome. She and Phil fostered two children, and opened their home to a teenaged friend, unofficially adopting Ellen and later her children became part of the extended family.

Even when her Alzheimer's progressed, her dominant characteristic was that of gracious hostess. Celine's family wish to extend their gratitude to the caring staff of Granite Ridge (Stittsville).

A Funeral Mass will be held when travel is possible.
