Sakamoto KatsSAKAMOTO, Kats (Ken)   - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Kats (Ken) on May 25, 2021.

He was predeceased by Grace, his beloved wife of 62 years and survived by his two sons Terry (Kelley) and Kevin (Janet), five wonderful grandchildren Paul (Alla), Kimiko (Elliott), Sean, Kiyomi, Madori and his much- loved great-grandchildren Anton and Anna.

Uncle Kats will be fondly remembered and missed by his extended family and many friends.

Kats was born in Port Hammond, BC in 1927.

During the second world war, the family was interned in Tashme.

After the war's end, he made his way east and earned his MD from the University of Toronto in 1954.

In 1956 Kats married the love of his life, Grace, with whom he would share his life for 62 years. Settling in Etobicoke, they built a rich life filled with family, enduring friendships and wonderful experiences.

Over the years, Kats devoted himself to his family, friends and 40 years worth of patients he saw from his office in Glen Agar Plaza.

By the mid-70s, Terry and Kevin were fortunate to have seen much of North America "from the back seat of Dad's Buick".

Post-retirement Kats and Grace didn't slow down as they continued to travel, meet new people and make many wonderful memories with their growing circle of friends. Grace's stroke in 2010 put a sudden end to their wanderings and this is the time Kats' true character showed itself.

Dad spent these years caring for Mom in their home until her passing eight years later.

It was only after this that Dad allowed himself one final trip – a final unforgettable trip with Terry and Kevin back to Port Hammond, Tashme and an extended visit with Suzanne and Kenny (Mom's brother).

The family thanks the staff at Credit Valley Hospital – 1C for their attentive care during Dad's final days.

Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trillium Health Partners – Credit Valley Hospital or a charity of your choice.
