OZOLS, Erika Ida (nee ZVEJNIEKS) - February 3, 1922 - June 13, 2021
Erika passed away peacefully, in the early hours of Sunday, June 13th, at the age of 99.
She was predeceased by her husband Janis and her brother Osvald Zvejnieks.
She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret and Vivian. Erika was born in Latvia where she grew up, went to school, and got married.
She immigrated to Canada after World War II with her husband and eldest daughter, settling in Toronto and then later moving to Scarborough in the 1950s where she raised her family.
With her daughters grown, she enrolled in nursing school, and went on to become a surgical nurse at the Scarborough General Hospital.
She continued to volunteer at the hospital well past her retirement.
Erika loved having a garden.
As she aged, she accepted the changes in her life philosophically.
After moving to Retirement Suites by the Lake, she loved to visit the Rosetta McClain Gardens where she watched the cardinals and always had peanuts for feeding the squirrels.
She was curious about changes in the park: how the lake looked that day, were there any butterflies, what was newly planted.
She practiced being kind, and appreciated the friendly help and care provided by the Wellness team, Transcare PSWs, and staff at the retirement residence. We will miss her.
As per her wishes, private family funeral arrangements have been made.
