Lawrence MerleLAWRENCE, Merle   - December 5, 1931 - July 6, 2021

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Merle Lawrence, nee Pries, peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Born in Kincardine, ON, the eldest child of Madeline and Egmont Pries.

Merle was predeceased by her loving husband Fred (2013).

She is survived by her sisters Fran (deceased John Sandfort), Elaine (deceased Carl Peterson), Gail (deceased Keith Bennett), predeceased by her brother Wayne (2015) and sister-in-law Judy (2016).

Loving mother to Steven (Maria Duszczenko), Janet, Brenda and Craig (Tanya nee Hill).

Cherished grandmother of Sarah (Chris) Lahaie, Katherine (Tyler) Sage and Peter Lawrence.

Great-grandmother of Lucien, Marcus and Alexander Lahaie and Isabelle and Penelope Sage. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.

Merle led a full and storied life and was a longtime resident of Georgetown.

Arriving in her early teens to help her father open the family bakery, she met the love of her life Fred and was married for over 60 years before his passing in 2013.

In addition to being a doting wife and mother of four, she held many interesting careers; from being one of the first ticket agents for the local GO train station, to organizing engineering change notices as a file clerk for Avro Canada during the Arrow Program.

She was a dedicated member of St. George's Anglican Church where her many years serving on the Alter Guild was evidence of her commitment to the community.

She shared her love of adventure and travel with her sisters, daughters, and many friends. An avid sports fan - especially curling, baseball and horse racing!

She will be fondly remembered for her quick wit and dry sense of humor and for being one never to miss sending a heartfelt card for every single birthday, anniversary and special occasion.

We would like to thank our family and friends for all the support they've provided us over the past few months. A special thank you to Dr. Aakriti Chawla, nurse Jericho Lee and the PSWs from Paramed.

Cremation has taken place. A private family funeral will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Merle's name to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation or CASHH (Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills).
