Gayler AngelaGAYLER, Angela Kathleen - (1934 - 2021) - It is with immeasurable sadness and a heart in tatters, that I share the news of my beloved mum Angela’s passing. Mum slipped away gently, quietly and blessedly at peace on Sunday August 8th, 2021.

Gone before her and far too early, were the loves of her life Stanley, and her wee jewel Caroline.

There simply aren’t enough words to breathe life into this tribute that would serve to paint an adequate portrait of this extraordinary woman, wife, mother, niece, in-law, friend and Grangie. If you knew her, even just a little, you were indeed fortunate. For she truly was a woman of incredible substance.

She will be remembered as a beautiful woman both inside and out. A woman who knew love and was loved. With impeccable taste and a great sense of style. For her upbeat and positive nature, who charmed everyone she encountered. Whose heart and mind were always open. And who travelled the world with enthusiasm and joy. Mum’s memory was truly extraordinary. People, places and moments in time all captured in vivid, glorious detail. Providing her with endless stories which she delighted in sharing.

She was our extended family’s elegant matriarch, my guiding light and the glue that held everyone together. Diligently looking after everyone in her care. A soft place to land when things went wrong and a source of wisdom when needed. Family and friends gathered around her table for Sunday night dinners, holiday meals and special occasions – every gathering made all the more special by her tireless efforts to make every fete uniquely special and memorable.

Mum’s strength was as mighty as her heart – pushing through medical treatments and health challenges with humour and dignity. Her indomitable spirit never waning. Even in the worst of times, she faced her illness admirably, with the same strength, courage and grace that she summoned whenever she encountered adversity.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr Lisa Tarshis; Dr Deborah Casey (Sunnybrook); to Dr James Quejada, Dr Valerie Caraiscos, Dr Daphna Grossman, Uma Dala, Kelvin Leung, JP, Billy, Julie and Christina at NYGH; to Dr Albert Kirshen, Dr Jennifer Arvanitis and Jane Thompson at Temmy Latner; and to our fabulous home team - Danielle Roy (her friend & physiotherapist) and her devoted caregivers Laura and Shelia. Thank you one and all for caring for our precious girl and for also taking care of me.

Regrettably, circumstances we all find ourselves in prevent us from gathering to share hugs and memories in person. So, until we are able to meet again, take a moment, hold a thought and raise a glass of something bubbly, to the incomparable Angela Kathleen Gayler. She would love that.

Mum … You were my guardian angel. My inspiration and the foundation upon which I built my life. Always loving, fiercely independent, unbelievably strong, graceful and elegant – you will be forever with us. “Like a handprint on our hearts.” I’ll see you in my dreams.

Should you wish to commemorate mum in some manner, donations to NYGH, Sunnybrook or The Temmy Latner Centre would be so very much appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted with Trull funeral home.
