Morrissey JimMorrissey, James “Jim” - Nov 14, 1928 – August 16, 2021.

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Jim at the age of 92.5 years, surrounded by loved ones.

Jim was born and raised in Clontonacally, Northern Ireland to his late, loving parents, Robert George and Sarah Ann Morrissey, both Registered Psychiatric Nurses.

He was a devoted husband of 67 years to the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth “Lil” née Carson, who he met at the age of six.

He was a close brother to late sister and fellow immigrant to Canada, Patricia “Patsy”, a loving father to Carol (John), Mary (Jim), a proud grandfather to Jennifer, Jamie, Michael, Trevor, Krysta and Erica, a great-grandfather to Evelyn, Violet, Harrison, Dane, Carson and Björn and a close uncle to Maureen and Diane.

He will be missed by his surviving sisters and brothers in Northern Ireland, Betty, Maureen, Eileen, Joy, Jack, Bill and Lil’s sister Anne, predeceased also by Roberta and George.

He will fondly be remembered by his remaining family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, residents and wonderful staff of the retirement residence where they’ve been so well treated for the past 3 years.

Thank you. Thank you to the caring nurses and surgeons at St. Michael’s Hospital.

Jim was a force to be reckoned with, believing he was born lucky and remained lucky all his life. Some referred him to as a “trouble-maker”, still others as “adorable”. He came to Canada in 1953, after having already completed an electrical apprenticeship and a stint working for the British Admiralty in Belfast. Quickly landing a Field Engineering job at IBM in Toronto, he negotiated his first raise before agreeing to be hired.

Due to Covid restrictions, a private service will be held at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Saturday, August 28th, 2pm.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society. He will remain forever with us, in our hearts and family stories.
