TANIZAKI, Lillian - Passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021.
She would have celebrated her 87th birthday in September. Lillian was the daughter of the late Mitsuru and Tatsu Tanizaki, market gardeners from White Rock, BC, who were interred in Tashme and New Denver.
Loving sister to Tamiko and predeceased by Tayeko and Ellen. Lillian was a good student and although her studies were interrupted by a serious car accident, she was able to complete her B.A. at The University of Western Ontario.
A teacher by trade, she taught for many years in the English department at George Brown College.
In her retirement, she was a generous donor and volunteer and attended lectures, cultural events and education throughout the city to broaden her knowledge and understanding of the world.
Lillian overcame many challenges in life. She leaves behind many good friends, including Ned Bozulic, who was a great support to her for many years; especially in her final years.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 27, 2021, 1:00 p.m., at Don Mills United Church, 126 O'Connor Drive, Toronto. We will miss Lillian at the sushi table after 60 years of volunteering at the Japanese Garden Center.
In lieu of koden, donations can be made to Don Mills United Church or a charity of your choice.
