GRIFFITHS, Doris Lillian - (1922 - 2021) - Doris Lillian Griffiths, age 98, of Scarborough passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28th, 2021 at the Ajax Pickering Hospital.
Doris was born in Gunning Cove, Nova Scotia, on December 30th, 1922, the daughter of Lovett and Elsie Goulden.
She was predeceased by her husband Roy, sister Evelyn, sister Gloria and brother Leon. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Valerie, Yvonne (Ed), and Darlene, along with grandchildren Shirley (Jason), Glenda (Guy), Irene, Andrea, Danielle (Shawn), Julia (Giancarlo) and Victoria (Jeremy). She was a loving great grandmother to 10.
Doris, Dotsy, Mom, Nan, Mustang Sally, the Queen had many nicknames and just as many fans. In her 98 years she never failed to have a sense of humour and zest for life. She attributed her longevity to her childhood of living off the land… fresh lobsters from the ocean for snacks, fish, wild blueberries, and homegrown fruits and vegetables.
She met her husband Roy at a “Navy Dance” in nearby Shelburne. They had a whirlwind romance, were married, and moved to Toronto, eventually settling in Scarborough to raise their three girls. After Roy’s passing at the early age of 49, Doris gained employment at the Canada Post working midnights as a mail sorter. There she met her friend and companion Ronald Jones.
Doris retired at the age of 65 and enjoyed every aspect of life. She cruised the world with her closet full of glittery cruise wear and was forever known for her bling. She took lessons in Hawaiian dance, played Bridge and Crib, and kept fit by swimming at the Birchmount Pool. If there was a dance or party, Doris was there. She rarely missed a Sunday Concert at the Scarborough Civic Centre. Her faith was important in her life and she attended the Church of the Epiphany, later Grace Church.
She was the Queen of our family, our inspiration, our everything and will be greatly missed.
Visitation arrangements are entrusted with Jerrett Funeral Home, Scarborough chapel.
A private family Funeral Service will be held at Grace Church, Scarborough on Saturday, September 4th at 11:00 a.m., and laid to rest following the service at the Pine Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Grace Church, Scarborough would be appreciated.
