Matthews DoloresMATTHEWS, Dolores (nee O'CONNOR)  -

April 11, 1941 – February 9, 2024

Dolores passed away in her 83rd year, following a brief hospitalization in Toronto, Ontario.

Predeceased by Bill, her loving husband of almost 54 years.

Proud and loving mother to Brenda (husband, Ed), Kevin and Pauline.

Delighted Nan to granddaughters, Kara and Emma (Vancouver Island).

An empathetic caregiver to many family members over many decades, including her parents, her mother-in-law, and most recently her husband.

Joining her brother, Sam (predeceased). Will be missed by her surviving siblings, Regina (husband, Skip) and Liam (wife, Karen), Sam's wife, Diane, and all her nieces and nephews, as well as many close friends.

She trained as a teacher in Ireland and taught with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, retiring in 1998.

Dolores enjoyed travel as a young single in France and Spain, and with her sister in Mexico. With Bill, she often travelled back to Ireland and visited England, Hawaii, San Francisco, Alaska, Italy, Eastern Canada, and frequently British Columbia.

Dolores lived on her own terms to the end, and was looking forward to a visit and outings with her granddaughters in March. The family extends thanks to the first responders and all the health care providers at Scarborough General, for their kindness and care in her final days.

A visitation (1-2 p.m.) followed by a memorial service (2-3 p.m.) is planned for St. Patrick's Day, Sunday, March 17th, at the Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank or Habitat for Humanity would be appreciated.
