SCARCELLA, Marietta (nee VIGNA)   -

August 15, 1929 – March 23, 2024

Marietta Scarcella (nee Vigna), our loving and much-loved mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend to so many, was released from the ravages of Alzheimer's on Saturday morning, March 23rd.

We take great comfort knowing that she left us so very peacefully and is now re-united with her husband, Luigi (Gino) who passed away in 2010.

Our mom lived with Alzheimer's for more than 18 years, succumbing slowly at first, and then suffering a rapid and brutal decline.

These years were difficult, but while the disease robbed her of cognitive and physical abilities, it could not take away the woman she was and the full, rich life she led and gave her family.

She was happiest when she was with family, cherished her relatives and friends, and loved to party. Most remarkable about our Marietta, however, was the depth and purity of her love for her family and friends.

Left with cherished memories of her are her daughter, Gina (Enrico Asta) and their children; Nicole Da Silva (Matthew) and Michael; her son, Sergio (Kristin) and their children, Julia and Joseph. No one could light up her eyes like her treasured grandchildren, who in turn, had so much love for their Nonna and Nonno.

She will be missed by her brother, Frank (Carolyn); her baby sister, Rosetta and her in-laws, Biagio Granata, Martha Vigna, and Antonio Scarcella as well as many nieces and nephews. She is now re-united in death with her parents, Gaetano and Assunta Vigna and Luigina Perri; her sister, Gina Granata; her brothers, Gerry Vigna and Alfonso Vigna and wife, Jeanette, and Maria Scarcella.

Our family extends our heartfelt thanks to all the administration and staff at Villa Colombo Toronto, and especially to Marietta's family of caregivers on 5 Fidani and 5 Fusco, in particular Leone, Rodolfo, and Helen, who looked after her for us so well these last 12 years of her life.

Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 Dufferin St.) on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church (811 Lawrence Ave., W. at Dufferin St.) on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Entombment to follow.

In memory of Marietta, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
