STEWART, Robert "Bob" McGregor Stewart - June 11, 1930 - August 11, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” McGregor Stewart shares the news of his passing on August 11, 2017 at the age of 87.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Marilyn in 2015, with whom he enjoyed 58 years of marriage.
He leaves behind his much- loved children, Don (Pauline), Diane (Gord Grunwell), Elaine, and Alan (Sandra), and will be missed dearly by his grandchildren Stewart, Cameron, Ryan and Regan, all of whom he was very proud.
Robert was the only child of Daniel and Margaret Stewart of Scotland and is survived by one cousin, who was like a sister to him growing up, Sheila Wilson, daughter of Mary and Denholm Smith of Scotland.
He also has many nieces and nephews in Canada who will always cherish fond memories of their uncle.
Together with Marilyn, Bob cultivated a tight-knit community of good friends with whom they enjoyed, dinner parties, travelling and alpine skiing. Bob also enjoyed his Friday night poker club with the boys, golfing, tennis and badminton. He met many of his friends during his career at General Motors where he held several management positions within the Accounting/Finance Department.
The cottage on Cameron Lake was a special place of gathering for him where he enjoyed time with his family going for rides in “Grandpa Bob’s cheap boat” (nicknamed by his grandchildren), swimming, skiing, and sailing, not to forget lots of good eating and drinking!
Bob’s family would like to thank Dr. Nguyen and the nurses at The Wynfield Long-Term Care Residence in Oshawa for the care and support provided over the past three years. Brandy, Jade, Kim, Debbie and Pauline were particularly attentive to Bob and were very compassionate toward the family during a difficult time. Special thanks to Reverend Sue Genge and Reverend Louise Sams of Kingsview United Church for their spiritual support.
Friends may join the family at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME & CEMETERY, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby (905-443-3376) on Tuesday, August 15, 2017; Visitation from 1 - 2 p.m. with Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel, followed by Interment and a Celebration of Bob’s Life.
