Belvedere CarmineBELVEDERE, CarmineWith profound sadness the family of Carmine Belvedere share news of his journey’s end. Surrounded by family from three generations, he passed peacefully on January 13th, 2018 at Royal Rose Place, in Welland ON.

With great joy we celebrate his life & reunion with his beloved wife of 65 yrs., Clementina Luciani (2010).

Survived by 5 children, Marie Vanderlaan (Jack); Lucy; Lina VanEsch (Mike); Ralph (Laverne 2013) & John. He was a proud & loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren.

Also survived by sister-in-law Carmela Greggio (Florino) & brother–in-law Peter Sergnese; much family, nieces, nephews & cousins in Port Colborne, Welland, Brantford, B.C. & Italy.

A proud Italian, Carmine was born 1927 in Castropignano, Campobasso & he is predeceased by his parents Raffaele & Maria Iorio & his siblings, Cesina (Francesco Pizzacalla), Federico (Filomena Iocca), Carmela (Martire Colitti), Olga (Gerry Iocca), Antonio (Carolina Maddalena), & Filomena (Peter Sergnese).

After arriving in Canada, via Pier 21, at Halifax, NS, he settled in Port Colborne with his dedicated wife, caring for & nurturing his family and ever-growing garden.  Carmine, with his family, celebrated his Catholic faith at St. John Bosco Church.

Homemade food & wine, laughter & many lively debates were part of Carmine’s 91 years. He achieved over 27 years of employment with INCO, & spent many years of community work with the Knights of Columbus & Mount Carmel Society & in 2016 he marked over 50 years as a member of the Italian Mutual Benefit Society.

For decades, without fail, Carmine was a loud supporter of his Toronto Maple Leafs & Blue Jays!  Love & thanks to all family & friends who visited & shared time with Carmine at Portal Village & Royal Rose Place. Utmost thanks to the unsung caregivers at those homes for their love and support and for entertaining Carmine’s playful nature while in their care.

The family will receive friends at Armstrong funeral home, 179 Clarence St. Port Colborne, on Friday from 2 - 4 & 6 - 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.  Vigil prayers will be recited on Friday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 20th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Walton as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or St. John Bosco Building Fund.
