DORANSKY, Mary (nee JAKL)  - Mary Doransky passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018 in her 102nd year at Bayview Extendicare, Toronto.

She leaves her daughter Mary, her son Louis, brothers Ben, Walter, and Arthur, grandchildren Stephanie, Christine, Denyse, Joanne, Leslie and Philip and great-grandchildren Nicholas, James, Adam, Georgia, Alexandra, Andrew, and Jade.

Mary Jakl was born November 25, 1915 in Linden, New Jersey, USA. In 1921, she and her siblings were left in the care of their paternal grandparents in Vienna, Austria. Mary completed her studies there and became a teacher. In 1938, she married Slovak poet Jan Doransky.

After the war in 1945 the family moved to Italy and in 1950 immigrated to Montreal, Canada. Mary was widowed at the age of 57 and moved to Toronto to be with her son Louis and his family.

At the age of 79 she began painting and created many beautiful paintings that are in collections around the world, including a series of religious paintings that are hanging in the St. Timothy's Parish Church Chapel in Toronto.

According to her wishes, she has been cremated (R.S. Kane Funeral Home) and will be interred with her husband Jan, in Notre-Dame-Des-Neiges Cemetery, Montreal.

A Celebration of Life is being planned and friends will be notified of the details. She will be greatly missed by many people.
