Rush HerminaRUSH,  (MIMI) Hermina (née Huis in't Veld)  -  84, passed away on February 7, 2018, in Kanata.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters Diana Verseghy (Gabor), Carmen and Anita, as well as her sister Jetty Versteeg (Chiel) and brother-in-law Jan Rooijakkers.

She was predeceased by her parents (Hendrikus and Susanna Huis in't Veld) and by her sisters Gonny, Lea and Annie.

Mimi was born in Malang, Indonesia, on May 18, 1933. Her parents were Dutch school teachers. She, her mother and her sisters were evacuated to Australia as refugees during World War II.

Following the war, the family returned to the Netherlands after being reunited with her father. She met Stephan Rush, an expatriate Ukrainian, in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1955 to marry him. Mimi was a proud Canadian and was happiest on Canadian soil. Trained as a nurse and initially a stay- at-home mother, Mimi worked for IGA and Loblaws for many years, retiring in 2010.

Her proudest achievements included earning a B.A. in Greek and Latin with highest honours from Carleton University in 1999 and a certificate in teaching English as a second language from Algonquin College in 2003. Mimi enjoyed palliative care volunteering with Friends of Hospice Ottawa, travelling, reading, music, cooking and entertaining, attending musicals with friends, home decorating, shopping and caring for her cherished cats.

Special thanks to her friend Alyma Moore and her friends at Loblaws, as well as to the staff at Garden Terrace Long Term Care Home, Riverpark Retirement Residence, Dr. Walter Potoczny and Dr. Jonathan MacKenzie who provided her with exceptional care.

Donations to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 44 Rothesay Drive, Kanata, Ontario. A reception will be held afterwards in the church hall.
