Melamed KatherineMELAMED, Katherine Margaret (Kit)  - October 3, 1952 - March 15, 2018

Kit Melamed died peacefully at home on March 15, 2018, surrounded by family who had gathered from across the world to be with her.

Her devoted partner of nearly half a century, Nissim Melamed, and her three children Amit, Yariv and Lee, shared many hours of Kit stories, watching, listening, holding Kit and each other's hands.

Kit was an indomitable journalist and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Kit was the daughter of Margaret and Val Sears (deceased), sister to Robin Sears and Kelly Haggart – and a force of nature from birth. A passionate critic of injustice by her early teens, Kit found a cause, a place and a partner in Israel when she was just eighteen.

Returning to Canada in 1979, Kit plunged into the study of journalism. From there she launched a three decade long television career that brought her the respect of colleagues and competitors, as a researcher then producer at W5 and the Fifth Estate.

Kit was a courageous defender of those who could not defend themselves and a lifelong activist for the social justice agenda in Canada, Israel and, through television, the world. Kit's passing leaves a deep hole in the lives of many friends, family members and colleagues.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to "Israel Guide Dog Centre" (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., 416- 577-3600)

There is no public service planned at this time.
