Thompson JohnTHOMPSON, John Perry Alexander  - November 19, 1922 – February 16, 2018

Perry decided to sneak away while surrounded by family on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Guelph General Hospital, at the age of 95 years.

He leaves behind, his beloved wife of 45 years, Pearl (nee MacKay). Proud father of Grant Thompson (Dawn Richards) of Summerland, BC and Cynthia Suprovich (John Suprovich) of Sioux Lookout, ON and step-father to Sandra Hong (Wayne Hong) of Guelph.

Cherished grandfather of Pamela Payne and Sheila Suprovich of Sioux Lookout, Gwen Suprovich of Winnipeg, Celeste Donkersgoed of Guelph and Jennifer Pearson of Guelph. Loving Opa to Ella, Willem, Hanan, MacKay and Annaline.

He was predeceased by his first wife and mother to Grant and Cynthia, the late Sheila Cuming (1967).

He was predeceased by his father Robert Bailey Thompson, co-owner of JL Thompson and Sons of Port Hope and his mother Olive Rebecca Perry, originally of Alameda, California and a nurse for the US Army during WWI.

Perry was a proud member of the RCAF and was stationed in northern England from 1944 to 1945 as a crew member in a Halifax bomber completing 42 missions. Returning from overseas, Perry attended the University of Toronto where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He spent the majority of his working life with Canadian General Electric in Toronto until retiring to the ancestral home in Port Hope where he had been born and raised.

As a young child, Perry spent weekends and summers at his father's cottage at Rice Lake, a tradition that he carried through his adult life at his own cottage until shortly before moving to The Village of Arbour Trails in Guelph. It gave him great joy to take his children and grandchildren to the lake where he showed them how to swim, fish and build bird houses.

Memorial contributions in Perry's name to the Canadian Cancer Society or The War Amps would be appreciated.
