WINESANKER, Lena - On Sunday, April 8, 2018.

Lena Winesanker, wife of the late Harry Winesanker.

Mother and mother-in-law of Joan Berlin and John Freitas, Sharon Lapkin and Danny Matenko.

Sister of Toby Levinson Cole, and the late Murray Greenbloom.

Grandmother of Henry and Fernanda, Deborah and Michael, Beth, Paul and Diane, and Dianne and Greg. Great-grandmother of Wenona, Beatrice, Rosa, Ruby, Max, Noah, Sam, and Isla.

Born to Louis and Devorah Greenbloom in Poland, the family immigrated to Toronto when Lena was 9 months of age. An avid and committed student, Lena entered the University of Toronto in 1937, one of a very few Jewish women. She married in 1939, and later, as a mature student, trained as a secondary school teacher at The Ontario College of Teachers. For 24 years she taught French and English at her alma mater, Harbord Collegiate.

Harry and Lena were solid citizens and actively involved in the Jewish cultural community. Throughout her life, her primary focus was on raising her children and building a warm, welcoming home for family and friends alike. Kindness and generosity were her watchwords.

At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West, for service on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.   Shiva at 77 Dunfield Avenue, Toronto.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Sunnybrook Palliative Care.
