Nelson SteveNELSON, Stephan Allan - Passed away peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the age of 62, surrounded by friends and family near his home in Orangeville.

He is survived by his wife Norma, sons Kyle and Roger, daughter Brianna, and granddaughter Adelaide.

Born May 7, 1955, Steve was welcomed to the world by loving parents Ted and Phyllis Nelson. He became the older brother to Paula Nelson at seven years old, and from there quickly took on the role of protective big brother, a role he occupied for the rest of her life and a trait he carried through all aspects of his own.

He did whatever it took to support the ones he loved, and his protective spirit meant he would never back down from a challenge.
An immensely talented tradesman and craftsman, Steve had an accomplished professional life and in tandem with life-long friend, Iain Macfarlane, built a successful electrical service business.

Steve’s other natural talent lay in cooking. It was a true passion of his, and became a focal point as his life progressed. He was a self-proclaimed “Egghead,” for his skill on Green Egg charcoal grills and under the pseudonym, Little Steven became renown in the cooking community he helped grow. He would never miss an opportunity to cook for friends and family, and though his food was always beyond what one would expect, he would comically remark all the ways it could have been better.

Steve also had a true love for music and was an encyclopedia for song lyrics. But, like all Nelson’s, was cursed with the voice of a coal miner…though it never stopped him from singing along at every opportunity.

He was witty and charismatic in his own unique way, and could deliver a punch line like no one else. He had a way with words, but also a penchant for remembering great comedic and cinematic lines, and transcending them into everyday life.

For those closest to him, Steve will be remembered as a caring, generous man with a kind, loving heart. He was always willing to make a personal sacrifice to save another person from hardship, and was the ultimate role model for the love and support he provided his family.

Steve now joins his late son, Scott Nelson in life’s next chapter but he will feel close to all those still here when one of his favourite songs play on the radio, or his favourite movies play on TV.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever live on.

Visitation will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Orangeville on Monday, April 16, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 4:00 p.m.
