Jansen MargaretJANSEN, Margaret (nee HUGHES)  - Dr. Margaret (Hughes) Jansen died peacefully in her 94th year.

She is survived by her three children, Mary-Ann, Clifford (Pamela, Julia, Ashley, Rylie and Callum) and Carlyle (Helen Kennedy, Willem and Nazrik).

She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Moray (Marinus) Jansen.

Margaret was raised in Three Hills, Alberta on a homestead farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse.

Her many aunts and uncle in Toronto enabled her to attend the University of Toronto and she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 1949.

She spent her entire working life at Queen St. Mental Health Centre (now CAMH) caring for outpatients.

A colleague wrote that "What set Dr. Jansen apart was her ability to connect with her patients. Often running behind, she took her time - to listen, to ask questions and to counsel, as needed."

Most of her life, however, was about taking care of her family, especially providing education and opportunities for her children.

Because education was so important in her life, she funded the education of many in her extended family and beyond. The few pleasures she took for herself were her summer cottage, live theatre, foreign travel and gardening.

A service to celebrate and remember her life will be held at The Faculty Club, University of Toronto (41 Willcocks St., Toronto) on her birthday, June 16th at 1 p.m.

Donations in her name can be made to CAMH.
