BAKER, W. Ross Baker - Obituary | Print |

BAKER, W. Ross -   "View Family Photos & Express Condolences"

Baker_RossJuly 7, 1932 – November 17, 2014

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our father, husband, uncle, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, Ross Baker at the age of 82 years.

Ross will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years Margaret Baker (nee Holly), children; Karen Baker, Wayne (Nancy), Vickie Grossinger and Dan, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Ross was a very honest, gentle and caring man. Dad enjoyed people in general, loved to talk and entertain those around him. He had a great sense of humour and was always smiling. Ross loved to fish and was the owner and operator of what he called "The Baker School of Casting" which was run out of the back yard of the family cottage, teaching the little ones to cast with their snoopy fishing rods. He was great at woodworking and many have pieces of his work in their homes to enjoy for years to come. He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and adored his wife. Dad was interested in the world even though he never travelled, he read plenty of magazines and watched documentaries about a variety of things. He loved music and sometimes you would find him listening to the radio in his workshop and doing what I lovingly call his old man dance!

Dad lived with passion, he was an optimist and his glass was always half full. He stayed that way until the very end telling me that he was getting stronger! I believe that he is somewhere now wearing a fishing hat with a rod in hand enjoying his next journey. We will all miss you!

In keeping with Ross' wishes cremation has taken place and a private service was held.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Campbell House, his wonderful Home Care Nurses and Dr. D. Nay for their care and compassion. A special thank you to Debbie and George for always being there when he needed them.

Donations may be made in Ross' memory to Campbell House (Collingwood, Ontario), Canadian Diabetes Association or Cancer Care.

McGILL, Ruth Lois (nee BROWN) McGill - Obituary | Print |

McGILL, Ruth Lois (nee BROWN) -

October 3, 1932 - November 21, 2014

Passed away peacefully in Gravenhurst with her family by her side after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer.

She leaves behind her loving children Brad (Catherine), Mike (Louise) and Heather (Phil). Cherished grandmother of Lauren and Rachel, Stephanie (Daniel), Meghan and Cameron and Elizabeth (Richard) and Eric (Jessie).

Predeceased by her parents Frank and Florence Brown and beloved older sister Ketha Mulock. Ruth was born in Toronto and grew up in Willowdale and had many fond memories of her grandparents' home "The Mackenzie House" later owned by the Ontario Historical Society. She graduated from the Household Science program at the University of Guelph. After graduation, she enjoyed working at Toronto General Hospital and Fibreglass Canada. Ruth was the ultimate mother having devoted her time to raising her children.

The (Her) family grew up in Agincourt and enjoyed many summers in Muskoka. Once the children married, Ruth developed other interests. While her summer home was in Gravenhurst, she spent her winters in Spring Hill, Florida. Ruth became a devoted Snowbird Club member in her Timber Pine community and spent 11 years making many new friends. Ruth had many hobbies and interests, including but not limited to: rug hooking, painting, sewing and baking. To this day, her butter tarts still hold fond memories.

She was a very special woman who never forgot a birthday without a card or a telephone message. Her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren; she will never be forgotten.

A very special thank you to the caring staff at the Granite Ridge Retirement Residence for their wonderful care during Ruth's stay.

A reception will be held following the service at the Central United Church in Weston, on Tuesday, November 25, at 1 p.m.. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
