di BELLA, Maria di Bella - Obituary | Print |

di BELLA, Maria

diBella_MariaApril 12, 1920 - May 21, 2015

Strength can be defined in so many ways. Strength of will. Strength of character.

Strength of mind and body. Strength of conviction. All of these apply to our mother Maria di Bella.

Unless you are Napoletana, it is impossible to properly explain the magnitude of the sacrifice she made leaving Naples so that her children could have a better life in Canada. She was fiercely proud of her heritage. Already fluent in French and Italian, Maria added English to her repertoire. She worked at Patisserie Dubois in Montreal and at RS Simpson, Lawrence Avenue warehouse, in Toronto. After retirement she and Giuseppe settled in Kitchener until Giuseppe was debilitated by a stroke, after which they finally settled in Mississauga.

Her devotion to her husband was legend; the love and devotion to her children never in doubt. Some of Maria's happiest moments were in the company of her grandchildren Sabrina, Anthony, Sandra, Michael, Carla and Silvana, as well as her great-grandchildren Kristen, Lauren, Allessia, Stephanie, Maya and Zander. Until she was 92, Maria enjoyed cooking for herself, volunteering, fundraising and demonstrating a cheerful, engaging and humourous disposition.

The final three years of her life she was restricted to a long-term care facility, where she was loved by all who knew her.

She made a lasting impression and the world is better place because of her. Her children, who loved her beyond definition, and their partners Lori Leonardelli (Livio), Peter di Bella (Elaine) and Tony di Bella (Kathie Anderson) will be happy to receive you at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, ON.

Visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015.

Interment May 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Oaks Cemetary. Same address.

Mamma would have wanted that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Hospital for Sick Children.
