LITTLE, Margaret Mary (Corinne) Little - Obituary | Print |

LITTLE, Margaret Mary (Corinne) -

Little_MargaretIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Corinne Little (nee Dodd) on July 20, 2014, at the age of 94.

Corinne will be missed by an abundance of friends and family, including her children: Jack Little, Bill Little (Carol), Mary Ellen Stuart (Henry), Perry Little (Carol); 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great -grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John Pearson (Jack) Little, her parents, Ellen and James Edward Dodd, her sister, Leona Leveille, and two nephews, Edward and Rod Leveille.

Born in Ottawa in 1919, Corinne spent most of her childhood in Thunder Bay. She met her future husband, Jack Little, there, and the couple were married in 1940. When Jack went overseas to fight in the war, Corinne also took part in the war effort at home. She was particularly proud of the role she played as one of “Rosie’s Riveters,” building airplanes in Thunder Bay. The couple remained dedicated members and supporters of the Royal Canadian Legion throughout their lives.

Corinne and her husband moved to Terrace Bay, Ontario in the early 1950s, where they raised their family. A nurturer at heart, Corinne was always happiest when she was taking care of others, and she found ways to do so through every phase of her adult life. In Terrace Bay, Corinne was responsible for cooking and running a large kitchen, happily providing meals for over 250 men at the Pulp Mill’s North Camp. In 1972, with the support of their son Bill, Corinne moved with her husband and youngest son to Oshawa/Brooklin. She was able to utiliize her unique combination of culinary talents and caregiving skills while working with troubled adolescents at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital.

She retired from that position and continued to live in Oshawa until returning to Thunder Bay six years ago to live with her eldest son Jack until 2013 when she then moved to Roseview Manor Nursing Home.

While she enjoyed her work and was proud of the people she helped and fed throughout her career, her favourite role was as a caregiver to her husband, her four children, and, later, to a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. They will all miss her warm hugs, her frequent words of encouragement and pride, and, of course, her delicious baking, which may have been her favourite way to show her love for the people around her.

Corinne continued to embrace life throughout her retirement years, teaching her family and friends through example that there is no need to let a little thing like age make you feel old. She lived independently into her nineties, and was an active member of her community. She took dancing lessons, and especially loved to line dance, which she did well into her eighties. When her instructor asked her to show the class a dance she had created herself, she informed family and friends that she was “teaching the old people how to dance.”

Corinne’s warm spirit and love of life will be missed by all who knew her. She will live on through the generations of family who grew up surrounded by her love.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Corinne’s name to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 152 at 56 Baldwin Street North, Brooklin ON, LIM 1A3, attention: Lisa Dinsmore.

Visitation at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby on Tuesday September 16th from 2:00 until time of service in the Barnes Chapel at 3:00 p.m.

Shared memories and condolences may be forwarded to www.barnesmemorialfuneralhome.com.

Innovative cars like Saabs and Studebakers, and Dinky airplanes of his youth fascinated him, and he relished full contact board games with his family. Today John is back in the arms of his mother and forever in the hearts of his family.
