BARYLO, Michael John Barylo - Obituary | Print |

BARYLO, Michael John -

88, of Etobicoke, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2013 in his own home.

For the last 7 and a half months Michael had been battling metastatic lung cancer complicated by silicosis. Michael embraced all treatment offered and his philosophy was "if they offer, I should accept". He was such a polite and kind patient. He never complained and everything was "good". Michael's daughter Lorain moved into the family home 7 months ago to provide loving care so that he could spend his final days at home.

In his last month, his daughter Christine from Delta BC arrived to assist. He was surrounded by a team of people - his wife, Alexandra, his daughters Lorain, Christine and Diane and his nephew Christopher. His granddaughters, Teresa and Danusha visited him all the time.

The family is so thankful to have had these special months with Michael. Hospital visits always involved an entourage of people. Michael, born in Bieniejki, Poland (now Belarus) on April 16, 1925, was taken at the age of 17 to a German work camp during WWII.

In August of 2010, Michael and Alexandra and his three daughters, Christine, Diane and Lorain had a memorable Alaskan cruise. On the cruise, Michael and Alexandra easily won the contest for being married the longest. Michael's dancing performance outside the Northern Lights Disco is a highlight burned into our memories. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Michael is survived by his wife Alexandra, daughter Christine Dow and son-in-law Kevin Graham, daughter Diane Foster and son-in-law Stuart Foster, daughter Lorain Barylo, grandson Rob Dow, granddaughter Danusha Foster and boyfriend Christian Pengelly, granddaughter Teresa Stawiarski and fiancé Alex Kaklamanos, grandson Brett Foster and grandson Christopher Stawiarski. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers and sister in Poland and Belarus.

The Barylo, Foster and Dow families wish to thank Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, St. Michael's Hospital and the homecare attendants for all their kindness and care. He was "Good till the last drop."

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 12 Denison Ave., Toronto at 10 a.m.

After a courageous public battle with cancer, the Honourable Michael Douglas (Doug) Finley died in Ottawa, Ontario, on May 11, 2013, age 66.

He was married to the Honourable Diane Finley for over 30 years.

Born in Exeter, UK on July 25, 1946, his parents quickly moved him to Scotland to ensure that he was "raised properly." Doug attended the universities of Strathclyde, Edinburgh and McGill. He immigrated to Canada in the late 1960s.

An avid soccer fan, particularly of Glasgow Celtic and Manchester United, he began his professional career at Rolls-Royce Canada in Montreal, where he quickly rose through the ranks to senior executive levels. In March 2004, Doug Finley was appointed Director of Political Operations of the newly-formed Conservative Party of Canada and was the engineer behind the 2004 break-through in Ontario for the Conservative Party. He then successfully engineered and led the Conservative Party to victory through the 2006 and 2008 general elections as National Campaign Director. In August 2009, Doug Finley was appointed to the Senate, representing Ontario South Coast. HAMILTON, Bruce Frank Hamilton - Obituary | Print |

HAMILTON, Bruce Frank -

May 28, 1936 - May 11, 2013

Bruce passed away suddenly at his home in Etobicoke on Saturday, May 11, 2013 after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 76.

The only son of deceased parents Samuel and Marion Hamilton (nee Hamill), Bruce is survived by his loving wife Mary of 55 years, sons Garry and Douglas; daughters- in-law Cecilia and Diane; and grandchildren Benjamin, Willem, Tyler and Keira. He will also be missed by his sister- in-law Valerie and her children Michael, Cameron, Jennifer and Katherine.

An Honorary Life Member of the Graphic Communications International Union, Bruce worked for over 44 years as a lithographer before retiring in 1999. He loved to golf and fish as well as being a longtime member of the Board of Trade Country Club, where he spent many happy hours with his buddies on the links (all 19 holes).

Friends wishing to pay tribute might consider a donation to the Trillium Health Centre Foundation, where Bruce received excellent treatment throughout the course of his illness.

At Bruce's request, a private cremation will be held followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony at a later date.
