LAWRASON, Agnes Rosalys (MARLATT) - Obituary | Print |

LAWRASON, Agnes Rosalys (nee MARLATT) -

July 5, 1924 - June 20, 2015

Throughout her life known as Ros, Rozzy, Mom, Nan, Toots Ros lived a life full of courage, strength, service and faith.

She was the consummate Nurse who cared for all she met and her commitment to service took her from the church kitchen to the streets and valleys of Toronto where she nursed the homeless.

Born in Oakville, the daughter of Kenneth and Margaret Marlatt, the oldest of three children: brother Ken who died in 1950 and she is survived by Peter (Sandra). Ros was educated in Oakville, Kirkfield and received her certificate in Nursing at Toronto General Hospital in 1946. She attended University of Toronto to obtain her degree in 1963 and 1964, so that she could hold the role of Supervisor.

She was the Supervisor of Obstetrics at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and then the Supervisor of Staff Development at TGH until retirement. Ros never actually retired. She worked with Peggy Ann Walpole at Street Haven and with Cathy Crowe and the homeless.

She worked with her church to open a second residence for the women of Street Haven. She volunteered with SPRINT and made numerous presentations to the Legislature about the role of the caregiver. She was awarded the Volunteer Medal by the Provincial Government. Ros found Gordon, the love of her life and for 35 years they had an absolute commitment to each other.

Gordon died in 1999 and left a void in all our lives. They travelled together and sailed on Lake Ontario and throughout the Caribbean. Ros leaves a son, Tom Simpson and his two children, Jessica (Scott) and Matthew (Tara). Jessica's children were her first two great- grandchildren and she loved Josalyn and Liam. Ros was "Auntie Toots" to very special nieces and a nephew: Cathy, Christine, Constance (Sasha) and Ken.

She loved and cared for each of them and had a special and long relationship with their mother, Gloria.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Michael's Hospital and Bridgepoint Palliative Care for the care, compassion and kindness they showed to Ros.

A funeral service will be held at Saint Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, St. Clair Ave W. and Wychwood, on Tuesday, June 30th at 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the church.

Flowers are respectfully declined and those who wish, may make a donation in Ros's name to Street Haven at the Crossroads.
