Belvedere_MarioFormer C.A.O. of Milton, passed away on May 27, 2014 at age 58.

He is survived by his wife and best friend Patricia. He was so proud of his daughter Jessica (Mark Henshaw) and cherished his granddaughters Keely and Raegan.

He is also survived by his mother Carolina, his brother Ralph (Carole) and sister Margaret all of Welland, and his brother Rico (Cindy) of Stoney Creek.

He will be greatly missed by his in-laws, Jim and Isabelle Christie of Milton, Fiona Christie (Asoka Yapa) of Oakville and Douglas Christie (Jane) of Calgary.

Mario was born and raised in Welland, and worked for the cities of Edmonton, Scarborough, Markham, Kingston, Grimsby and his favourite of all - Milton. He was honoured with the Milton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of 2013 Award and also received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Mario tried his best, along with the Mayor, Council and town staff, to make Milton the best place in Canada to live and work.

Mario had many passions: playing soccer, watching and talking hockey and football, gardening and ecology, his cottage at Sauble Beach, travel, investing and laughing.

He maintained friends from his childhood (Tony and Dave), University of Waterloo (Duncan, Rose, Jamey, Frank), Edmonton (Duncan, Rose and family, Gary, Bob, Keith), Scarborough (Frank, Kate), Markham (David, Ted, Fred, Chris, Jack), Pickering (Kelley and family), Kingston (Dave), Grimsby (Keith) and too many to list from Milton who should know how much they meant to him.

Mario co-chaired the Milton United Way’s Mayor’s Golf Tournament for many years and was also the campaign chair for a few years.

Many thanks to the Kelso Lake Medical Clinic (especially Dr.’s Badawi and Fonseka and Amanda) and the Carlo Fidani Cancer Centre at Credit Valley (especially Dr. Kaiser and the chemotherapy nurses) who looked after Mario so caringly.

Mario would appreciate donations to the United Way of Milton or Milton Hospital Foundation. Rather than sending flowers he would much prefer it if you planted a tree or some vegetables in your garden.

Mario lived life to the fullest and his joyful exuberance rubbed off on all who loved him. We are so relieved Mario is now at peace.

A Celebration of Mario’s Life will be held at the Milton Centre for the Arts, 1010 Main St. E., Milton on Friday, May 30th at 11:00 am.

COX, Rhoda Wilhelmina Cox Obituary | Print |

COX, Rhoda Wilhelmina -

Cox_Rhoda_Wilhelmina(26 October 1914 - 28 May 2014) - Succumbed suddenly to a stroke in her 100th year.

She remained physically and mentally engaged to her final days, enjoying crossword puzzles, music, bingo, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Murdoch and tennis - a Roger Federer fan. She will be remembered for her good humour, forgiving nature, and the vitality of someone years younger. Her love for her family and all their pets kept her going.

Thanks to the caregivers at Oakville's Post Inn Village, especially those on Maple wing who brought her beloved twice-daily tea service, always welcomed with a smile.

Born in east Toronto to William Kingstone and wife, Wilhelmina (née Stein, died in childbirth), Rhoda was raised lovingly from infancy by a relative, Florence (née Nichols) and Frank Lake. Her birth family remained connected. After Secord Elementary School she graduated from East York Collegiate with her grade 11 commercial diploma. She met Alfred Charles Evans Cox (Charlie) while both worked at Oneida Community Plate in Toronto.

Married in 1941 they followed Oneida's move to Niagara Falls, living on Dorchester Rd in Stamford where she was active for years in the Mary Martha Society at the Stamford Presbyterian church. She lost her beloved Charlie in 1977. In 1979 she left the home he had built, but remained until 2010 in Niagara Falls where she had many friends. Several in Stamford Court, her home from 2003, will remember her fondly. Throughout her life, friendships were of daily importance.

Loving mother to Donald (and Darlene), Dianne (and Gabriel Durocher), and David (and Julia Buxton-Cox), grandmother to Sherry (and Brian Harvey), Edward, Kevin and Robyn, and step-great-grandmother to Erin and Aidan (Harvey).

She is survived by her brother Joseph (Joe) and wife Gwen Lake, and their sons Stephen and Paul. Rhoda is predeceased by her Kingstone siblings, Edgar (Alice), Hazel (Earl Willson) and Evelyn (Robert Leslie), and by Edgar's children Janet (Ross Monk) and Alan. She is survived by Edgar's son, Bill (and Wilma), and Norma (widow of Alan).

Our mother was of that special generation prepared to sacrifice for the war effort, for community, family and friends, to ask for little, make do, and live with grace. She will be remembered with love.

Following cremation, the family will gather privately to spread her ashes as she wished.

If desired, donations to the Salvation Army or the Humane Society are welcome.
