FROST, Ruth Isabel (Stronach) Frost - Obituary | Print |

FROST, Ruth Isabel (née Stronach) -

At Chester Village in Toronto on June 17, 2014, Ruth Isabel Frost in her 91st year.

Loving and much loved mother of Catherine Frost and Margaret Kennedy, both of Toronto. Fond grandmother of Matthew Kennedy of Toronto and dearest sister of Gail and Bob Traversy of Stratford. Lovingly remembered by her life-long friend and cousin Jean Brooks and nieces and nephews, especially Karen Fort of Penticton and Robin Traversy of Toronto.

Predeceased by her parents Ernest W.G. and A. Rhoda Stronach (Knowles); her husband Gordon L. Frost and her sister R. Joyce Trollope. Ruth was born and raised in Toronto, part of extended Scottish families that settled in the city in the nineteenth century. She lived her whole life with great courage, humour and optimism, despite many challenges of circumstances and health and her strong integrity and loyalty to her family and many friends were much appreciated. She was a keen duplicate bridge player at several clubs and tournaments, an enthusiastic member of the Bruce Trail Association, a prolific reader and fond of travel in Canada and overseas.

She particularly enjoyed cottage life and, in earlier days, camping. Ruth had been an elder in the United Church of Canada and for many years was actively involved in her church community. She worked for the Communications Division of the UCC, initially at Berkeley Studio and latterly at the St. Clair Ave. headquarters. Although she took pleasure in her job, she also relished retirement, which gave her more time to travel, play bridge and attend the theatre with friends.

The family is deeply grateful to all the staff at Chester Village Long Term Care for their skill and great kindness in caring for Ruth over the past 2½ years, particularly Linda, Yvette, Loretta, Kathy Ann and Dr. B. Birmingham.

It truly was a new extended family.

Ruth donated her body to the Division of Anatomy, University of Toronto, for studies and research.

A celebration of her life will take place in early September.
