FROIS, Gil De Melo Frois Obituary | Print |

FROIS, Gil De Melo -

Frois_GilIt is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Gil De Melo Frois on November 19, 2014 with the comfort of his children and wife by his side after a courageous battle with stomach cancer.

Gil was born March 23, 1929 in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal.
He was married to Maria Ines Baptista Frois for almost 57 years. Together they enjoyed a long lasting marriage complete with love, loyalty, mutual respect and enough memories to last a lifetime. Their union was indescribable and the spark they shared was evident even in his last moments.

They immigrated to Toronto, Canada in June 1964 to start a new journey and build a better life for their family. He was a hard working man and loved by many co-workers at the Law Society of Upper Canada where he retired after 30 years as a chef steward.

Gil was a father and friend to his children Frank and his wife Bernadette (Sousa), Vera and her husband Joe Da Cunha, the late Anabela and Emanuel and his wife Karen (Power). He was not only a provider to his family but also a mentor. He may have been a man of few words but he never ceased the opportunity for a classic one liner.

Gil was most proud of his title as Avo. The love he had for his grandkids was unmistakeable and he will forever be missed and cherished by Michelle Frois-Da Cunha, Lindsay Campacci and her husband Anthony, Bryan Frois, Chantelle De Couto and her husband David, Vanessa Da Cunha, Eryca, Reanna and Aaron Frois and his great-granddaughters Ariyanna and Niya. He could often be found asking them how school and work was and beaming with pride as he watched them grow into themselves. He was the type of Avo who would attend their Christmas concerts, recitals, hockey games, volunteer for school trips and without fail have a sweet marie chocolate bar or ice cream awaiting them after school.

His attitude and spirit was never broken by the cancer he fought and although his body became weaker, his mind and love for his family never deteriorated. Gil will be fondly remembered by his only remaining sibling, Maria do Rosario Do Couto, in-laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours. He meant the world to his family and he will live on in their hearts and memories.

Arrangements out of Oakville. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, 61 Jutland Road, Toronto on Monday, November 24th at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Oakville.

In an effort to honour Gil's wishes, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or provide his wife with donations for masses in his honour.

KOSTURIK, Milan John Kosturik Obituary | Print |

KOSTURIK, Milan John -

Kosturik_Milan(1936 - 2014) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Milan John Kosturik on November 19, 2014.

He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Goldie (nee Szeman), sons Michael (Wendy), Mark (Angela), and Frank (Carol), and by his loving grandchildren Elizabeth, Carolyn, Mark Jr., Julianna, Lauren, Sarah, Andrea, and Nea.

Born October 23, 1936 in the village of Podkonice, Slovakia to Michal and Helen Kosturik, Milan left "the old country" for Canada at the age of one, where he grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario. After completing high school Milan went on to earn a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Buffalo.

He began his career with Norton Abrasives in Chippewa, Ontario before moving on to the telecommunications world in 1970 with Northern Electric in Bramalea, Ontario. He forged many lifelong friendships with colleagues and coworkers and kept in touch with many following his retirement in 1996.

He was especially proud to be Vice President of Quality at Northern Telecom at a time of huge change as we entered the digital world. This role allowed him the opportunity to travel the world with Goldie and gain countless fond memories.

Most important to Milan, however, was family - both immediate and extended. To his immediate family he was Papa and his affection for his grandchildren was genuine and complete. To his extended family he cherished each and every moment spent with his cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

His infectious personality and love of family landed him the title "President for Life" of his extended K-Cousins family, a role he took as seriously as any other. He couldn't wait to attend each and every family reunion which have been held every two years since 1980 which from Wisconsin to Quebec and most places in between.

Milan will always be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, an eternal optimist with a huge heart, and great compassion for others. Papa, you will dearly missed and in our hearts forever.

Memorial Donations to Canadian Diabetes Association or Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds St., Oakville.
