RABITO, Girolamo 'Jimmy' -

With saddened hearts and a profound sense of loss we announce the passing of Girolamo "Jimmy" Rabito on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, with his family by his side, after a battle with lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.

Born in Pachino, Sicily, on July 11, 1938, he immigrated to Canada as a young teen in December 1954 with his parents and siblings in search of a better life.

Soon after his arrival, he began a career in the sewer and watermain construction industry that would span a lifetime, first as a heavy equipment operator and beginning in 1964, until his passing, as a contractor.

In 1964 he briefly returned to Italy where he met and married his wife Maria on August 29, 1964. Husband and wife returned to Canada where they spent the next 50 years of their lives working and raising their children and family.

From his semi-retirement in the late 1990s and up until his recent illness, he remained healthy, active and enjoyed spending his time at his farm and with his family. He is survived by his loving wife Maria (nee Lorefice), eldest daughter Corradina "Corra" and son-in-law Domenico "Mimmo", granddaughter Maria Rosa and grandson Giuseppe "Joey" Muia. Son Salvatore "Sam" Rabito. Youngest daughter Giuseppina "Josie" and son-in-law Lewis Adam "Lew", grandsons Girolamo "Jimmy", Stephen and Michael Mayles. Older sister Giuseppina Roccasalva (nee Rabito). Younger brother Vincenzo "Vince" and sister-in-law Vincenza "Nancy" Rabito. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family, both in Toronto and in Pachino.

He is predeceased by his father Salvatore and mother Corradina Rabito, his older brother Rosario "Ross" and sister-in-law Giuseppina, nephew Giussepe "Joe" Rabito and brother-in-law Carmelo Roccasalva. His kind heart, gentle demeanor, generosity, guidance and support and unwavering dedication to his two loves in life, his family and his work, will be sadly missed by all.

A part of my heart you take with you
But your love you leave me to keep,
So we will never really be parted
This bond between us is too deep.
Love you "Chief".

BISHOP, Joanne (nee Ruth Joanne Donaldson) Bishop - Obituary | Print |

BISHOP, Joanne (nee Ruth Joanne Donaldson) -

March 7, 1943 - April 15, 2014

Joanne was married almost 48 years to Jim Bishop.

Beloved Mom to Julie, Amy and Greg and very special Gramma to Aaron, Zoe and Shuma.

She was wife, mother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, friend and Gramma; she was the centre of our lives. We called her our Mothership. She organized, planned, listed, inspired and created special events out of the smallest and largest occasions. Her gifts to those she loved are crystal-clear in the dear memories we have of childhood treasure hunts, week-long birthday celebrations, cards for every event and always on time, odd memories of Swedish Christmas music and giddy imitations of the Muppets Swedish Chef. Joanne loved to travel.

We have many fond memories of her on the beach in Negril, surrounded by family, friends and glorp castles with the villas festooned in Valentine's Day hearts, cupids and lights. She and Jim had many road trips through Canada and the US with the Burgesses, as well as several fine cruises through the Mediterranean, Aegean, Baltic and Central America and a 2013 tour of the UK.

Jo's intelligence, her serene capacity to make people at ease, her gift of making so many occasions special and her gentle ability in organizing a family of strong personalities are the gifts we'll miss the most.
