SEUNARINE, Pearl Margarita (née SANKERALLI) -

November 27, 1930 - August 17, 2014

It is with much sadness but hearts filled with love and comfort that she will be with her God, that the family announces the passing of Pearl on Sunday, August 17, 2014.

She was the loving wife of the late Fulton Seunarine, adoring mother to Mary (Dan), Atheling (Kim) and Clarence, doting Agee to Sterling, gentle Nahnee to Clayton and Jasmine, dear sister to Ainsley Sankeralli, cherished daughter to her deceased parents Atheling and Louisa Sankeralli and esteemed cousin, aunt, friend, role model and so, so much more.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, WI, in 1930, Pearl began her training in music that would be central to her life and also started her lifelong career as a teacher. In December 1962 she came with her two children to Canada to rejoin her husband who was studying in Hamilton at McMaster University and the following year they had their third child.

They set down roots in Westdale and very soon Pearl started teaching with the Hamilton Public School Board and became a pillar in the community and at Westdale United Church.

A going concern all her life, Pearl made sure bellies were well fed with delicious and healthy food and everything was kept clean, all while teaching full time, first as an elementary classroom teacher and then many years of music and finally ESL, earning her Bachelor's in Music from McMaster, running off to Church and Bach-Elgar Choir practices, going to this committee meeting or that organisation, such as the Canadian Caribbean Cultural Association, UNICEF, the Canadian Women's Club, entertaining countless numbers, hosting giant Carol Sings, nominated for Woman of the Year in Hamilton, etc., etc., etc.

A visitation will also be held at WESTDALE UNITED CHURCH, 99 North Oval, Hamilton, on Sunday, August 24th from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 3:30.

COOPER, Lillian Beatrice (Bilenduke) Cooper - Obituary | Print |

COOPER, Lillian Beatrice (nee Bilenduke) -

Cooper_Lillian(July 11, 1928 – August 17, 2014)

After a full and rewarding life in Oshawa, Lillian passed away peacefully in her 87th year at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Donald, she was the loving mother of Diana and her husband, Brian O’Connor (Toronto); Douglas and his wife, Lisa (nee Lack); Robert and his wife, Deirdre (nee Perry), all of Oshawa.

Devoted grandmother to Michael (Jamie), and Patrick O’Connor (Emily Hutton); William, Donald and Charles Cooper (Madison Wilks); George, Devon and Gregory Cooper; and great grandmother to Amaleigh Lily O’Connor.

Lovingly remembered by sisters Rose Planeta (Jim), Sylvia Spencer (Bill deceased), Dorise Bilenduke and brother Peter Bilenduke (Pat). Predeceased by sister Marilyn Lapa (Matt) and brother John Bilenduke (Pat). Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families. She will be greatly missed by many friends and family members in the local Oshawa area, and in western Canada.

Lillian was a longtime member of Kingsview United Church and its UCW –Del Mar group. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the church’s Annual Christmas Bazaar contributing many handcrafted knitted and crocheted items, as well as a large variety of delicious baked and preserved goodies.

One of her proudest accomplishments, in support of the UCW’s fundraising efforts, was to introduce the Del Mar group to an Easter egg recipe 52 years ago which they continue to use to produce delicious hand-dipped chocolate covered Easter eggs for sale to the church and wider community raising thousands of dollars over the years.

Lillian will be fondly remembered for her caring compassion and enthusiastic enjoyment of social gatherings of family and friends. She looked forward to meeting people and was always curious to learn more about them. But her greatest passion in life was her family. Lillian took great pride and interest in all her family’s accomplishments. And it was this intense interest and inclusion in her family’s life that helped to sustain her through the many health challenges she faced in the later years.

She wanted to be there and share in all the major milestones of her family’s lives, such as the recent birth in March of her first great grandchild, Amaleigh.

Her favourite song, “You are My Sunshine”, which she enjoyed singing at family parties and was a true reflection of her personality, has been rewritten to show her family’s love for her...

You were our sunshine, our only sunshine.
You made us happy, when skies were gray.
You’ll always know, Dear, how much we loved you.
We’ll always remember your sunny ways...

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the medical staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa – 5th Floor Cardiac Ward and Hillsdale Estates, for their excellent professional care and compassion.

Donations in memory of Lillian may be made to Kingsview United Church, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Lakeridge Health Foundation.

FLANAGAN, Thomas Oliver Flanagan - Obituary | Print |

FLANAGAN, Thomas Oliver -   "Express Condolences"

Flanagan_ThomasOctober 28, 1937 - August 17, 2014

Thomas Oliver Flanagan born October 28th, 1937 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Thomas & Elizabeth Flanagan.

He married the love of his life, Charlotte Josephine Flanagan on December 31st, 1960 and they in turn welcomed Paul (1965), Martin (1974) and Catherine (1976) into the family.

Thomas started his career in hospitality as a bell boy in the Midland Hotel Belfast. After spending many years in the Merchant navy cruising the Atlantic on likes of the Queen Mary, he pursued a career in hotel management in both Northern and Southern Ireland.

He immigrated to Canada in 1994 and thoroughly enjoyed working at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385 - Aurora, of which he was also an active member.

Sadly, Alzheimers entered his life in 2005 and slowly progressed to steal his memories day by day. In May 2014 he was diagnosed with aggressive, inoperable lung cancer and despite Josephine staying by his side every step of the way, these horrible diseases eventually took their toll, culminating in dad spending his final days in the loving care of the nurses and staff at Hill house Hospice, for which the family is extremely grateful for their kindness.

He is survived by his wife, his children as well as his Grandchildren Andrew (18), and Iona (6), and we thank him for being the gentle, loving, caring, funny father & husband that he was, and we while we miss him more than words can say, we find some comfort in the following few words of an anonymous poet:

If I should go tomorrow
It would never be goodbye,
For I have left my heart with you,
So don't you ever cry.
The love that's deep within me,
Shall reach you from the stars,
You'll feel it from the heavens,

And it will heal the scars.

We love and miss you Tommy! x.
