HAMILTON, Kathleen Hamilton - Obituary | Print |

HAMILTON, Kathleen -

Kathleen (Kathy) Hamilton on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 peacefully in her sleep after a stroke from which she never recovered.

She would have been ninety-one in March.

Predeceased by her husband William (Jock) of more than sixty years, she is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by sons Ian and Colin; daughter Karen; daughters-in-law Lorraine and Patti; grandchildren Jill (Todd Howell), Ian (Jane), Stephanie (Brian Moniz), Alexis (Jeremy Pinson), Graeme, Alasdair (Ellen Smiley), Katie, Amber and Chris;  and great-grandchildren Chloe, David, Matthew, Oliver, Jackson, Isabella, Gabriella, Lucas and Scarlett. There are also various cousins and other family members in England, Scotland, Wales and the United States.

Born Kathleen Purslow, the only child of Harry and Louise, in Weston Rhyn, Shropshire, Kathy left school when she was 15 and went into service at Chillington Haven, near Wolverhampton. In 1939, she turned 17 and immediately joined the WRENS. She said she joined the navy because she'd never seen the ocean.

After Jock's death, she moved into an apartment near Brown's Line and then three years ago settled in at the Grenadier Assisted Living Retirement Home on Bloor Street, near High Park. She made new friends there and for the most of that time was an eager participant in the daily activities at the Grenadier.

It was only during the last year or so that her health began to deteriorate and limited her ability to do the things she wanted. She was intensely proud of her family and basked in every success, and there were many.

She said she had trouble believing sometimes what a wonderful family she and Jock had created. That family has now lost its mainstay.  She will be sorely missed.

Service will be held in Toronto, on Friday, February 6th.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association.

HOOGVLIETS, Georgine Hoogvliets Obituary | Print |

HOOGVLIETS, Georgine –

(1926 - 2015) - Passed safely into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday 3 February, 2015.

Beloved mother, mother-in-law, Oma, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and prayer warrior to friend and foe. Mom was a sincere, God fearing woman. Though she had little formal education, her life experience was deep and wide. She was a sage, wise beyond her years.

Mom prayed for herself, her dear family, her friends, her acquaintances and strangers alike. She especially prayed for the poor and suffering both near and far. Mom was a generous and giving person though she had very few worldly goods. It bears repeating that her love of the Lord was steadfast.

Mom will also be fondly remembered by family and friends in Europe and South America. Mom was energetic, loved to sing hymns, recite poetry and scripture, all from memory, in Dutch and she did so beautifully and melodically. Mom was witty and loved a good laugh, often about the most inane things.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday 14 February at 11 a.m. at Burlington Christian Reformed Church, 3422 New Street, Burlington, ON L7N 1N3.

Special appreciation to Drs. Simmons and Sandino, Halton Emergency personnel, Ruby and Aloma.

Mom requested that any donations in her memory be made to World Renew (worldrenew.net); Christian Reformed World Missions (www.crwm.org/donate) or Back To God Ministries International (www.backtogod.net). World Renew had a special place in her heart.
