MILLER, John Charles Miller Obituary | Print |

MILLER, John Charles -

(December 28, 1932 - February 26, 2014)

Peacefully at Leisureworld O'Connor Court after a rich and exemplary life.

Greatly loved and deeply missed by his wife Dawn. The best father in the world to Anne (Mark Riopelle) and Martha (Jeff Adams) and loving grandfather to Wilfred and Ada. Beloved brother of Paul (Virginia) and dear uncle to Cathy, Mary, Jacqueline, Paul and their families.

Gentleman and scholar, John had a long and storied career as an educator - he taught French, Latin and Ancient Greek and counselled students as Head of Guidance at Etobicoke Collegiate, St. Michael's Choir School and Monarch Park Collegiate Institute.

Coaching also was a passion of John's - during his tenure at Monarch Park, he coached the Lions football, basketball and track and field teams.

Those lucky enough to have known him well - as a teacher, guidance counsellor, colleague, friend or relative - will remember a wise man with a loving, compassionate soul. Linguist, cinefile, sports enthusiast and intellect, John was a true Renaissance man. His activities were wide-ranging: reading, jogging, playing bridge, birdwatching, listening to classical music and opera, watching football, singing in a choir and playing the recorder, to name a few. His smile lit up a room and we will remember this.

Though diffuse Lewy body disease had ravaged his strong body and beautiful mind for the last seven years, he was able to retain his grace, dignity and spirit thanks to the loving care of his family, friends and in particular his wonderful caregivers both at home and at Leisureworld O'Connor Court.

Arrangements out of Scarborough. Funeral at St. Anselm's Catholic Church, 1 MacNaughton Rd., on Saturday, March 1st at 12:30 p.m. Interment.

If so inclined, donations may be made in John's memory to the Neighbourhood Link Adult Day Program, 3036 Danforth Ave., M4C 1N2, or another charity in support of seniors.
