COCKBURN, Verna Irene (Torrance) Cockburn - Obituary | Print |

COCKBURN, Verna Irene (nee Torrance) -

May 23, 1928 - January 5, 2015

It is with much sadness that the family of Verna Cockburn announces her peaceful passing on the evening of January 5, 2015 at the Ina Grafton Gage Home, Toronto, where she was treated with warmth and compassion.

This was after watching her slowly slip away from us with dementia. She left us at 86 years young. Verna was predeceased by her parents Irene and Thomas Torrance, brother Douglas, son Dennis, daughter Bonnie Louise and grandson Brandon. Left behind to miss her are daughters Janice (Ray), Carolyn, Kathryn (Steve), daughter-in-law Diana and family friend Gerard. She was a caring Gran to Jayme, Shane (Deb), Bethany (Duane), Cody (Kati), Wade, Riannagh, Recherche, Bryan, Danielle (Damien) and great- grandchildren Jasper and Scarlett.

Verna was a very private person whose main focus was always family. Growing up in the Beach area, Lake Ontario remained her favourite place. She enjoyed children, nature, her cats, reading, long walks, her alone time and a sweet treat.

She had a longtime fascination with Aboriginal culture and wolves. Verna's life was often difficult, raising her four beloved children as a single Mom.

We give thanks, knowing she did her best for us. In her honour, donations may be made to the Toronto Zoo, a place she wandered countless times, the Alzheimer Society of Ontario or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes, a private family graveside celebration of her life will take place in June.

Verna is finally now at peace.
