Dad was born on the family farm overlooking the Conestoga River on the 13th Line, Peel Township (Glen Allan) in 1921. He later farmed with his 'City Slicker Wife' on Hwy. 86 near Macton, often assisted by some of Mom's younger sisters and brothers until moving to Kitchener in 1955. Dad sold real estate and was a loyal employee of Imperial Tobacco for over 23 years, retiring in 1986. A member of St. Anne's R.C. Church for over 50 years, including many years on the Social Committee; Dad was also an Honourary Life Member of Maryhill Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree Knight). During his retirement Dad enjoyed walking miles, playing cards with his friends at church, puttering around the house and car, and picking out the odd tune on his fiddle. He enjoyed attending plays in Drayton, which allowed him to check out the crops and farms along the way. Always a farmer at heart! Dad had a strong faith and prayed his rosary daily. He taught us the value of family, hard work, honesty and integrity; values we will carry with us for life.

EICHINGER, Fabian -

Eichinger_FabianIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fabian Eichinger on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the age of 85.

Fabian is survived by Irene, his loving wife of 62 years, daughters Irene McCormack (Jim) of Kitchener and Linda Malcolm (James) of Kingston. Cherished Opa to Milena, Danielle, Luke and Joel. Fabian will be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law, Herta Eichinger, Maria Sehn (Anton), his brother-in-law John Tippel (Diane), as well as many caring relatives and close friends. Predeceased by his daughter, Rita Eichinger-Smith, his parents, Eva (Milla) and Peter, his sisters, Eva Spitznagel, Katharina Till, Anna (infancy) and his brother, Peter.

Fabian was an employee of Uniroyal for 33 years, and always made sure his family had the best and safest tires on their vehicles. He was a member of the German congregation at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, fifty-three year member of the Concordia Club and sixty year founding member of the German-Canadian Hunting and Fishing Club. Fabian enjoyed many social gatherings at both clubs, and would often announce that he was the 'last one' on the dance floor. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and playing eisstock with his many friends. We will miss his smile, his sense of humour, and that mischievous twinkle in his eye.

A special thank you to the many dedicated palliative care nurses and doctors in our community, who assisted Fabian in his final days.

The Funeral Mass for Fabian will take place at St. Mary’s Church, 56 Duke St.W., Kitchener, on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:30am. Reception to follow in the church hall.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.
