Loving mother of Karen Edwards and the late Les Edwards (2011),Donna (Walter) Sypko, the late Bernice Roswell (2005). Loving mother-in-law of Welby Roswell. Predeceased by her 11 siblings. Much loved grandmother of Dennis (Cindy), Wendy (Eric), Derek (Rose), Graeme, Sharie (Pat), the late Douglas “Bud”, 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Grandmother-in-law of Kathy Dickens.

Eby_JoneAfter a courageous battle with cancer the family of Jone Mary Eby sadly announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Hospice Wellington in Guelph.

Loved for her cheerful nature and gentle kindness, Jone was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was born in Galt, raised in Hespeler and loved by her family and large circle of friends.

Left to celebrate her life with wonderful memories: son, Aaron Eby and daughter, Cristin Eby, of Cambridge; brothers: Harry Kohli (Mary) of Welland, Don Kohli (Wenette predeceased) of Port Dover and Michael (John) Kohli of Cambridge; dear friend to Bill Bittner plus many nieces, nephews, co-workers at Zehr’s, extended family and friends.

Jone is predeceased by her mother, Mary and father, George.

At Jone’s request cremation has taken place.

Friends are welcome to join in a celebration of her life at Royal Canadian Legion Hespeler Branch, 26 Schofield Street, Cambridge on Monday February 27 from 12 noon – 3 pm.

Through her life Jone always had a warm smile and kind word for her many friends and would be honoured to be remembered by donations to the www.hospicewellington.org.

Horne_KeiranCherished son of Adrienne and Brian Horne, loving brother of Liam, and precious grandson of Bill and Ursula Carter, and Robert and Mauve Horne (deceased), passed away at home, following a brief illness, on Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 at the age of four years.

Keiran was full of life and always had a smile on his face. He loved music and dance, made up wonderful songs about everything and especially loved farms and all the animals, particularly cows.

Born June 17, 1953 in Galt, to Russell and the late Eleanor Rivers.  David passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in his 59th year.

Beloved husband of Donna (nee Ross). Loving father of Danielle White. Dear brother of Patricia DeVries (Bob Hynes), Jamie (Ruth), and Les (Juanita Campbell).

David will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Dave loved to tinker and work on cars in his spare time and was the president of Cart Concrete.

As per David’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral services.

Brother-in-law to Marion, Olive, Evelyn, Grace, Gloria, Pat, Roslyn, Garnet, and Mary.
Predeceased by his parents Peter and Clara Dietrich, siblings, Gordon, Hubert, Howie, Clayton, Harold, Clair, Carl, Edward, Peter, and Loreen and brothers and sisters in law, Elmer, Victor, Audrey, Mary Pat, Shirley, Bob (Pansy), Rita (Fred), Elsie (Bill), Eldon, and Foster.

Biff served overseas during WWII in Belgium and Holland.

He was hired by Youngs Jewellers in 1946 as a watchmaker and ultimately retired as manager.

He was a faithful member of St. Anne’s RC Church.

As an avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of Greenwood Rod and Gun Club.

Funeral Service on Friday, February 24 at St. Anne’s RC Church (268 East Ave. Kitchener) at 10am.  Fr. Peter Meyer officiating.

Dedicated, giving and loving mother to Graeme (Nicole) and Erin (Marcus Flannery). Bestest "Gramma" to Nathan Hill.

Predeceased by her wonderful parents George and Ruth Soper. Marg was a Record classified staff member for 9 years then a full time Mom. She so much enjoyed her activity in the Studebaker Drivers Club more lately her exciting connection with her special "Glambert" friends around the world.

A Memorial Visitation will take place this Saturday, February 25th at the RATZ-BECHTEL FUNERAL HOME in Kitchener from 2-5 pm.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her life will be held on her 60th birthday, April 7, 2012.

KNIGHTLEY, Stella -

Knightley_StellaPassed away at Freeport Health Centre, Kitchener on February 20th, 2012 in her 95th year.

Predeceased by her loving husband Delbert Knightley, parents Mary Thiel and Louis Hildebrand, brothers Clem, Gord, Albert and Orville and sisters Irene Snyder and Mabel (Murawsky) Schwartz.

She will be sadly missed by her only daughter Donna and her husband Peter Bruder, grandchildren Melissa Rice, Kelly Burgetz and husband Dan, Sean Bruder and wife Monika, and five great-grandchildren Liam and Ava Rice and Kaela, Joshua and Jayden Burgetz.

Stella was raised in Seaforth and in 1937 she worked for a family in Kitchener as a housekeeper, where she met her husband Delbert Knightley, the family gardener. During the war, while Del was stationed in B.C. she worked at Smiles ‘n Chuckles.

Stella took pride in being a homemaker. Her cooking and baking took second to none.
She and Del loved to dance and never turned down a good time. She loved to harmonize in any sing song from “Silent Night” with her daughter on her knee at two years old to a group singing around a fire or Christmas tree. She had a great sense of humour and could laugh at herself. We’ll never forget her “giggle”.

A special good-bye to brother Glen, sister-in-law Marion, her nieces and nephews and Lanark friends Jean, Francis, Vera, Doris, Phyllis, Sidney, Mac, Joe and Ted.
Thank you to the Lanark staff for their ongoing loving care.

Cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday February 22nd. A social gathering to celebrate Stella’s life will be held following the service.

Memorial donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Kids Ability would be appreciated by the family.

Carolyn was an active board member of the United Way and served as president of Big Brothers. She also maintained her own family law practice for many years.

The Memorial Service for Carolyn will be held on Saturday February 25th. Cremation has taken place.

She was a longtime resident of Cambridge and also St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church.

Is now at peace after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, on February 19, 2012.

HICKS, Bruce Hugh -

Hicks_BruceIt is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bruce Hugh Hicks, age 70, of Stratford, on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 at Stratford General Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Bruce was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, January 30th, 1942. Son of the late Ernest Hicks and Evelyn Hicks (Clarke).

Bruce was a dedicated fan of the Stratford Junior B Cullitons and also greatly enjoyed his membership in the Stratford and Waterloo Coin Clubs. The Detroit Red Wings were his favourite NHL hockey team with Gordie Howe being his hockey hero.

Bruce retired from F.A.G. Bearings in 2007. Bruce was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Beloved husband of Linda Hicks whom he married on October 18th, 1969 in Stratford. Loving father of Robert Hicks of Vancouver, British Columbia. and Jeremy Hicks and wife Gilliauna of Mission, British Columbia.

Bruce is survived by sister-in-law Mary-Lou Drown of Stratford, Ontario, nephew Elijah Drown and wife Amber of London, Ontario and their 3 children Keegan, Landon and Emma. Also survived by Beatrice Hicks, nephew Roger Hicks, niece Kelly Maddalena and husband John of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews in British Columbia.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Joyce Doughty, brother Ronald Hicks and brother-in-law Larry Drown.

Funeral service in Stratford, on Thursday, February 23rd. Rev. Douglas Reble will officiate.

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful, yet sudden passing of Douglas Lee, soul mate of Ruth Lee (nee Smith).

Douglas passed away quietly and peacefully in the place that he loved the most, his home. Douglas was an amazing and caring father of Robert and Patricia. Adoring and cherished grampa to Victoria, Carrigan, Hope, Adam and Blake. Douglas was a giving man, who always stepped forward and helped his loving family; he lived for his children and grandchildren.

The loss of grampie is so great; we cannot put it into words. Husband, dad, and grampie will always be in our days, in our hearts and memories.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial visitation will be held at the Rockton Agricultural Society (Farm and Home Building) on Saturday March 3, 2012 from 1-2:30p.m., followed immediately by a memorial service.

McIntyre_JoanIt is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Katherine McIntyre (Boutilier) on Sunday, February 19, 2012.

Joan will be sadly missed by her long time companion Bud Somerton.

Loving mother of Kathy Bannon, Kevin (Cathy) McIntyre, Paul (Rhonda) McIntyre, Blair McIntyre and Karen (Cory) Reuter.

Dear grandmother of Courtney, Shaun, Ashley, Katelyn, John, Zoe, Landon, Mason, Jacqueline and Hope.

Survived by her sisters Cecilia (Jake) Woltz, Helen (Barry) Walters, Margaret Martin (Brian Ward), brothers Tom (Betty) Boutilier and Arnold (Helen) Boutilier.

Predeceased by her husband John A. McIntyre, her parents Margaret (Finnell) and Peter Boutilier and brothers Peter and Reginald Boutilier.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 24th at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 240 Hemlock Street, Waterloo at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Cornelius J. O’Mahoney as Celebrant.

Interment followed by a reception in the church hall.

MILLER, Lisa Laverne -

After a battle with cancer, Lisa passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario.

She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and many friends and is survived by her partner Kelly, her mother Bridgette Osborne, along with David Bennett, her father and step mother Ron and Julie Osborne, sisters Veronica and Carrie, and her nieces Raven, Breanna and Jaidyn.

Lisa was a caring & compassionate woman who provided her strength and courage to others.

She had a wonderful outlook on life and always brightened up a person with her beautiful smile and big blue eyes.

A memorial service to celebrate Lisa’s life will held on Saturday March 10th.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hope Place Centers, Hospice Simcoe, Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, London Health Sciences Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

UNRAU, Erna -

Unrau_ErnaPassed away peacefully at her home on February 19th, 2012 at the age of 69 with her husband and children at her side.

Erna (nee Schmidt) was born in a small German Mennonite Village in Neuenburg, Ukraine, to parents Jakob and Sarah (Neufeld) Schmidt.

Survived by Walter Unrau, her loving husband of 46 years and three children: Christine Rowe (Dwayne) of Brampton, Catherine Unrau Woelk (Andrew) of Kitchener, and Daniel Unrau (Rachelle Shpeley) of Nelson, B.C.

Beloved grandmother of Marlana, Evelyn, Andre, Abigail, Nathaniel, Jesse and Jakob. Survived by brother, Irwin Schmidt (Joan), sister-in-law, Anne Huebert (Peter), nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Predeceased by her parents and a sister, Erna, who died in infancy.

Erna enjoyed a full and rich life and received much satisfaction from her career at the University of Waterloo where she was the first departmental secretary in the newly established Computer Science Department. She placed high value on church involvement, serving in various capacities, and was able to engage even more fully in volunteer work during her retirement.

She developed an interest in genealogy and authoured two books documenting the genealogy of both sides of her family.

Erna fought a courageous battle with cancer for many years and appreciated the excellent care she received at the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre.

The Service of Remembrance will be held at W-K United Mennonite Church, 15 George Street, Waterloo, on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at 1 p.m. A reception will follow.

It was Erna’s wishes that donations be made to Mennonite Central Committee or the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre in lieu of flowers.

WARD, Mary (Glogowski) -

Ward_MaryPassed away peacefully at Pinehaven nursing home, Waterloo on February 19th, 2012 at the age of 87.

Loving wife of the late Leslie Ward Sr. (January 10, 1994) and beloved mother of Ruth (Joe) Hajjar, Les Jr. (Laura) Ward, Judy (John) Mahoney, Norma Hergott and Natalie (Don Wilson) Rhodes. Cherished Nannie to twenty grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Predeceased by her parents Joseph and Elizabeth (Matthews) Glogowski and her brother Joseph “Dody” Glogowski.

Survived by sisters-in-law Bridget (late Dody) Glogowski, Norma (late Sonny) McDonald, Evelyn (Lorne) Seymor and Catherine (late George) Ward.

Born in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Mary and Les Sr. met as young children on the island. They married on December 4th, 1941 on the island where they soon started their family.

After all the children were born, they relocated to Waterloo, Ontario where they lived and worked for the remaining years of their 53 year marriage.

Mary and Les Sr. were both very happy people and loved to socialize and entertain. Loving and very caring parents, they always had a welcoming hand and warm heart for those in need.

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at Sick Kids' Hospital, on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at the age of 6.

Beloved son of Edward and Adebimpe, loving brother of Catalijne and Cornelus (Niles), and Joey, dear grandson of Dan and Jane Blokland. He will be forever missed by his Tante Mo and Krzysztof, Tante Rose and Omar, Auntie Lola and Chris, Auntie Wale and Patrick, Auntie Faith, Uncle Hope and Kristin, and his cousins Marko and Dahlia.

Rembrandt touched many people in his time here and will always be remembered for his gentle, kind, and loving ways.

Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 Laurentian Drive, on Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

LEIGHTIZER, Sydney 'Pat' (WWII Veteran) -

Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at St Andrews Terrace, Cambridge in his 89th year, after a long illness.

Much loved father and father-in–law of Audrey and Ron Vrooman of Waterloo, Ontario with whom he lived for most of his later years.

Pat will be missed by his son Brooke and daughter-in-law Nelly Leightizer of Iroquois, Ontario and daughter Vicki and son-in–law Colin Hine of Ottawa, Ontario. He is also survived by sisters Patricia of Elliot Lake, Ontario and Joyce of Edmonton, Alberta, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by parents John and Josephine (nee Morrison) Leightizer of Prince Edward Island, sisters Mary, Connie, Rae, Nell and Bette and brothers George, Jack, Jim and Karl.

Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Pat was a World War II veteran who served as a Flying Officer with the RCAF, stationed in Scotland and Ireland. Following the war, Pat returned to complete his education, then joined the Canadian Forces (Army) where he was a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons for 10 years, serving in Germany with the NATO Occupation Forces in 1951.

After his retirement from the army, Pat pursued his true calling as an educator. He was an admired and respected teacher who taught at Morrisburg District High School, Woodstock High School and then joined the Essex County School Board.  After serving at several schools in Essex County, he retired in 1982 as Principal, Essex District High School.

In retirement, Pat was an avid and accomplished woodworker and his family has many of his beautiful works to help keep his memory alive in our hearts.

Following Pat’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. A private family celebration of Pat’s life will be held and he will return to rest in his birthplace.

Peacefully passed away at Chateau Gardens LTC, Elmira on Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at the age of 92 years.

Kevin is the beloved husband of the late Valerie (Cesanek) Morris (March 17, 2011). Dear father of John Morris (Terry Palmer) and Jane Morris. Loved grandpa of Julien, Sarah (Adrien) and Manya (Eirik) Lange and great grandpa of Joshua and Noah Orlik, Eva, Esben and Olivia Lange. Brother of James (Maize) Morris, Patrick (Marcia) Morris and Helma (Wilfred) Mayne.

Brother-in-law of Margaret Morris, Mary Lou Armstrong, Jean Cesanek, Betty Chownyk, Adelaide Sutherland and Bob (Fran) Cesanek. Kevin is survived by dozens of very special nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by brothers Edmund, Carberry and Jordan Morris, his sister Mary, and brothers-in-law Julius Chownyk, Gordon Sutherland, Joseph Cesanek, and Bill Armstrong.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, Elmira on Wednesday, February 22nd at 12 noon.

In Kevin’s memory, donations to the Lung Association would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Chateau Gardens for their outstanding care of Kevin.

Beloved wife of the late Henry Spencer (1987).

Step mother of Ken Spencer (Lorna) of Cambridge and Florence Smith (Jack) of St. George. Loving Grandma Reta of 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law of Lorraine Cadiou, Gladys Spencer and Joyce Spencer. Reta will also be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. Reta was a resident of Hilltop Manor for the past three years and will be missed by all the residents and staff.

Predeceased by her parents James Joseph Quirk and Lily Maud Quirk (nee Cadiou), and her siblings Muriel Quirk, Edith Quirk, James Quirk and Charles Cadiou, as well as her step-daughters Marilyn Elvin and Shirley Huddle.

Edward proudly served his country during the World War II as an officer with Royal Canadian Air Force.

LEITH, Robert Gordon -

Leith_RobertBeloved husband and life partner (in their 60th year of marriage) of Margaret Eleanor Leith (Wood).

Passed away in his 94th year, on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital.

Son of the late James and Helen Leith and brother of the late James Forbes Leith.

Robert was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kitchener, a retired machinist with the Toronto Hydro System. He was a returned veteran of the Second World War after 5 years of service in Britain and Europe with the Canadian Army, taking part in the liberation of Holland.

Will be sadly missed by his two nieces Anne Leith of Manitoulin Island and Barbara Robinson and her husband John of Wyoming, Ontario. Also sadly missed by his many friends, especially Mary and Peter Thibault and their children Hannah and William.

A Celebration of Robert’s life will take place in Waterloo on Wednesday, February 22nd, with Rev. Mark Lewis officiating.

Donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church may be made.

Ness_BettyPassed away peacefully at Anne Hathaway Residence, Stratford on February 17th, 2012 at the age of 83.  

Betty was born in Stratford, December 11th, 1928, daughter of the late Fred and Isabel (Mary) Douglas and has lived here all of her life. 

Betty worked with the City of Stratford Parks Department until her retirement. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Stratford.

Beloved wife of the late Paul Ness who predeceased her November 3rd, 1998. Loving mother of Pauline Walkom (Bruce), Susan Sokolowski (Stephen). Loving grandmother of Andrew and Sarah Walkom, Robbie Sokolowski.

Also survived by a brother Jack Douglas and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by brothers Ernest (Marie), Harold, Walter (Gladys), by sisters Eunice Kingsley (Roy), Grace Blow (Jim) and by a sister-in-law Marie Douglas.

The funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 115 Cambria Street, Stratford on Wednesday, February 22nd at 11 a.m. Rev. Timothy Teuscher will officiate.

Passed away peacefully with family at her side on February 17, 2012 in her 92nd year.

Beloved wife of the late Douglas Goodfellow; loving mother of Richard (Nancy), Robert (Laurie) and Russell (Demetra). Grandmother of Naomi, Ryan, Jessica, Andrew, Jamie, Meghan, and Dayna. Great- grandmother of Julian and Reese.
