PREIKSCHAS, Ute Margarete (nee Hempel) -
was born, at home, in Neustetin, Germany on December 8, 1938 and died, at home, in Baden, Ontario on May 17, 2013.
After her December 2012 diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, she initiated a peaceful journey enjoying the best of her faith, family, and friends until her spirit was peacefully released and surrounded by love she entered eternity. A consummate mother, homemaker, gardener, artist and lifelong learner, Ute excelled in many ways, and used her diverse talents to serve and delight her family and friends. Of particular note was her ardent passion and understanding in matters of faith, which was the central theme of her character and her life.
Ute had an unwavering faith in God, an appreciation for the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, and assurance in the transformational power of the Holy Spirit. She was a member of the New Apostolic Church, having been confirmed in her youth in Germany, and attended services faithfully in Canada for over 60 years. Since childhood she loved to sing, and gladly added her voice as a member of the church choir.
Ute was predeceased by her father Paul in 1972 and mother Anna (Elizabeth) in 1985. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, William. Dearly loved mom of daughter Michele (Paul Stewart) and son Tim (Sandy) Preikschas. Ute is also survived by her brother Gary (Louise) Hempel of Cambridge, Ontario and sister Gerda (Volker) Rauchensteiner of Williams Lake, B.C. Many nieces and nephews from the Preikschas and Hempel lineages will remember her fondly as a special Tante/Auntie.
A funeral service celebrating Ute's life will be held on Thursday May 23, 2013 at the New Apostolic Church, corner of Margaret Avenue and Adam Street in Kitchener.
A visitation at the church will begin at 5:30 pm prior to the funeral service at 7 pm. The family invites the congregation to a fellowship, at the church, following the service. Cremation has taken place and private interment will follow in Baden at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the New Apostolic Church Foreign Extension would be appreciated by the family
We gratefully acknowledge and on Ute's behalf thank everyone whose prayers and acts of kindness, great and small gave comfort and strength to endure through life's final challenge. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 So we are always of good courage.
We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
