RIECK, Donald Alfred 'Donny' -
In his 85th year, passed away peacefully at Trinity Village Care Centre, Kitchener on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.
Beloved husband to Clarene, and step-father to Eric Ellis (and friend Sheryl), Kevin and Robin Ellis, Dale Ellis, and Cathy and Tony Pereira. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill, Ken and Lorne, and seven step-grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Daniel, Christine, Maggie, Jonothon and Jessie.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Violet and several siblings.
Donny spent most of his life operating Don Rieck Flooring, and later went to work at M & M Flooring. He was also a member of the Waterloo Legion. Donny spent the later part of his life with Clarene, wintering in the warm sunshine of Arizona, which he truly loved!

It is with great sadness that we announce her passing on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 with family by her side, at St. Mary's Hospital in her 66th year.
Beloved Daughter of Mary Szwajkowski and dear Sister of Stanley Szwajkowski (Carol). Cherished Aunt of Laura Blain, Michael and Bobby Szwajkowski, and Great-Aunt of William, Hunter, and Ellen Blain. Margaret is also survived by her Uncles; Michael Naciuk (Shirley), Nick Naciuk (Margaret), and John Naciuk (Pauline), her Aunt Mary Szwajkowski, as well as many cousins. She was predeceased by her father John Szwajkowski and her grandparents; Michael and Magdalene Naciuk and Stanley and Anne Szwajkowski.
Margaret worked at Revera Retirement Living in the Accounting Department.
Relatives and Friends are invited to celebrate Margaret's life at a Memorial Mass at St. Clement's Church, 745 Duke Street, Cambridge on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.

Anna passed away peacefully at home in Waterloo, on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the age of 81.
Loving mother of Teresa Manning (Sam), Milt Tillich (Meme) and Joanne McCreery (John). Dear grandma to Laurie, Kerri, Heather, Jennifer, Carleigh, Christina and Anthony. Also survived by a brother Frank Tillich, a sister Katherine Chiacchia and dear longtime friend Christina Frey.
Predeceased by her husband Toni Tillich, granddaughters Lisa McCreery and Trisha Ann Tillich, a brother Martin Tillich, sister-in-law Eleanor Tillich and also Anna’s companion Erich Iljas.
Anna was born in Chippawa, Ontario and grew up in Drumbo where she met and married Toni. They lived in Waterloo where she worked for many years at the University of Waterloo and made many friends. Her favorite times were spent together with her whole family at their cottage on Lake Huron. She is deeply loved and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11th followed by interment.
Donations to the Ontario Lung Association-COPD or a charity of choice may be made.

Peacefully on May 6, 2013, in his 82nd year, surrounded by his family, at the Guelph General Hospital.
Loving husband of Nancy for 58 remarkably happy and committed years. Irreplaceable father of Colin of Stoney Creek and David and his wife Christine of Paris, ON. Loving and proud Grandad to three wonderful grandchildren: Emily, Liam and Andrew.
Loved Uncle of David Aldous (Mary Jane), Greg Aldous (Charlene) and Jeff Aldous (Bonnie) and their families.
Predeceased by his parents William Charles Hazell and Ruth Hazell (nee Knowles). Also predeceased by Winnifred Pyle (nee Barty), his mother-in-law, and sisters Ruth Aldous of Windsor and Sylvania Hazell of Hamilton.
Dr. William Hazell was born October 10, 1931, in Hamilton. He attended Queen Mary School, Delta Secondary School and McMaster University. He taught Science in several schools in Hamilton and was Head of the Science Department at Westmount Secondary at the time of his retirement from teaching. Bill attended the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry and after his graduation in 1973 had a thriving dental practice in East Hamilton until his retirement in March 1991.
Dr. Hazell was Past President of the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry (1982), past member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and a member of The Ontario Dental Association Healthcare Committee (1981-1984) and a member of the Ontario Dental Association Membership Committee (1976-1978).
In retirement he enjoyed the company of family and friends and was an award-winning bird carver.

Ken was born 73 years ago in Wellesley Township and was the son of the late Simeon W. & Mary Ann (Roth) Jantzi.
Beloved husband of the late Marjorie (Gingerich) Jantzi who predeceased him September 3, 2011.

Interment will be held on Friday, May 10th at the 19th Line Mennonite Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Ken’s life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg. Pastor Jan Steckley and Pastor Kevin Peters Unrau officiating.

KAUFMAN, M. Carl, B.A.Sc., P. Eng. -
The family of Carl Kaufman is sad to announce his sudden, but peaceful death on Monday, May 6th, in his 91st year.
He will always be remembered by his wife, Eleanor, and his children, Allan, John, Ross and Mary and their families. He is also survived by his sister Mary Eleanor Merritt and his brother Bob Kaufman. Carl was predeceased by his brother, Edmund Kaufman, in 2012.
Carl was born in Kitchener and lived most of his life in the Waterloo Region. After graduating from the University of Toronto, he returned to the area to work with his father and brothers at Kaufman Lumber Ltd. for 15 years. He followed this with 11 years of teaching science at WCI. After this, he completed the Canadian Securities Course and worked for 20 years at local investment dealers.
Carl was a member of the Plan Politae Y’s Men’s Club, the K-W Sales and Advertising Club, and the Waterloo Men’s Probus Club. Always interested in his community, he served on the Regional Landfill Advisory Committee and the Clair Lake Community Advisory Committee. His concern for his neighbourhood, government fiscal policies, and waste management problems were subjects for his frequent letters to the editor and phone calls.
A celebration of life for Carl will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church 50 Erb St. W. Waterloo, on Saturday, May 11, 2013 commencing at 11:00 a.m. with a tribute to follow at 12 noon. Rev. Bruce Sweet officiating. Reception to follow.

LEGATE, Valerie-Anne -
At the end of a genuinely remarkable journey, Valerie left this world precisely as she had envisioned – with a silent smile, a happy tear, and with God and family near.
Valerie-Anne was the beautiful first-born daughter of William Spence (Bill) and Jeanette Greig, sister to Louise (Lou) and Kevin Wright, Derrick Greig (Valentina), Marissa (Greg) Brown, and Martin Greig. Married to Jim, and a very proud mum to Michael (Tracy), Vanessa (Steve), Viona (Mike), Robert, and Jimmy. She will be missed by all nine of her dearest wee grandchildren, Dylan, Gavin, Ethan, Nolan, Brandon, Gracie-Mae, Issaiah and Bentley, and all her aunts, uncles and cousins in Scotland, England and here in Canada.
The last months of Valerie’s life were extraordinary. Her incontrovertible strength and unwavering passion was simply a sight to behold. Valerie was delightful. She was jovial, comical, honest, positive, and asked for little. There was a quiet innocence to her soul. We believe we are blessed to have been such an integral part of her high-spirited life.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius RC Church, 11 Traynor Ave., Kitchener on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Vijay Martin as Celebrant. Valerie will be cremated and interred on a bright and beautiful Spring day, where she will rest in peace with her Gran, Mary O’Neill

Passed away suddenly at home after a lengthy illness, on May 6, 2013 in his 47th year.
Loving husband of Laurie (nee Latulippe) and devoted father of Tyler. Aubrey is lovingly remembered by his siblings Debbie (Glenda), Cyril and Terry Simms, sister-in-law Lisa Dummer (Kirk), and by many loving family members and friends.
Predeceased by his parents William Simms and Eva Wall Keylor.
Aubrey's positive attitude in life was a gift and his sense of humour, loyalty and friendliness made him loved by all who met him. He was an avid fisherman and spent many enjoyable times fishing with his family and friends.

Age 86, of Stratford passed away suddenly at her residence on Monday, May 6, 2013.
Georgina was born in Listowel, Ontario on March 10, 1927, daughter of the late Rev. Canon John H. Geoghegan and the former Margery Hamilton.
Beloved wife of the late Wallace Simpson whom she married in 1947 and who predeceased her in 1972. Also predeceased by her sister Eileen Whitehead. Georgina will be sadly missed by her brothers John Geoghegan (Mary Ann) of Woodstock and Robert Geoghegan of Brantford.
Georgina dedicated her life to Education as a Stratford school teacher for 35 + years. She will be forever remembered as a caring, passionate, enthusiastic teacher who enriched the community in which she lived. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church.
A celebration of Georgina’s life and memorial service will take place in Stratford on Monday, May 13th. Rev. Dr. Lorne Mitchell will officiate.

YOUNG, Frank A. -
On Monday, May 6, 2013, peacefully at home in Toronto, Frank concluded his earthly visit and proceeded to the promised realm, ready for further service and adventure.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Dorothy (2003).
He is survived by his son Stephen (Jane) Young; daughter Victoria (Carl) Malanka; granddaughters Stephanie and Alison Young; grandsons Craig and Stephen Malanka; great- grandchildren Nathan and Kallen; and goddaughter Elizabeth (Sherk) Everett. He was the founder and, for many years, president of Association Management Services, and in 1961 the first Canadian to be granted the CAE designation in professional association management.
He subsequently served on many committees, on the board and as president of the Canadian Society of Association Executives. During his career he worked and consulted in some two dozen industries, including manufactured housing, R.V. manufacture, fine paper distribution, steel distribution, roofing manufacture, motion picture production, brush manufacture, fibreboard manufacture, architectural metal and industrial design.
Born in East York (WWII RCASC 1942 - 1946), he contributed a lifetime of service to the East York Collegiate alumni and student body.
Funeral service will be held in ROSEDALE UNITED CHURCH, 159 Roxborough Drive, on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Private interment.

Age 58, of GadsHill passed away suddenly on May 5, 2013 at University Hospital, London.
Alex was born in Stratford, son of the late Lawrence and Audrey Becker.
Beloved husband of Betty Becker. Loving father of David Becker (Brittany). Special grandpa of Sienna. Dear brother of Sandra MacKenzie (Walter) and Mark Becker (Donna). Also survived by brothers-in-law Brand DeVries (Afra), Andy DeVries (Jill), Henry De Vries (Teresa), John DeVries and many nieces and nephews.
Alex owned and operated Shalmar Structures in Shakespeare with his brother for many years. He was a member of 2nd St. John's Lutheran Church, Wartburg. Alex loved to ride his Harley Davidson, was an avid hunter and loved baseball and hockey.

Wilma Messer passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital at age 88.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, George, twenty years ago, and is survived by four children and their spouses: George & Doris Messer, Linda & Peter Davis, Peter & Johanne Messer and Philip and Marlene Messer, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Wilma lived in Waterloo from the time she was three. She was one of 14 children of Thomas and Augusta Lough, and is survived by sisters Louise, Myrtle and Joanne.
She maintained close friendships with her classmates from KCI, working friends from her days at J. M. Schneider, members of St. John’s Lutheran Church and her nieces that included her in their family and church functions.
In her younger days, Wilma was an adventurous traveller and made frequent visits to Europe. More recently her life was enriched by Third Age Learning, Saturday afternoon operas, and attending theatre performances with her friend Jean.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 8th. Private family interment will be held.

After a long and hard struggle, it is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our much loved "Joannie."
Beloved daughter of the late Donald Morrison and Mary MCKellar and step-father Joe McKellar. Loved and adored by sister Barbara (Allan Matthews).
Predeceased by her brother Ronald Morrison, and nephew Ronald Matthews. Beloved aunt of Christine (Mike Schoch and family), Dean Matthews (Lori and family), Terry Matthews (Claire and family), Ronald Matthews (Kathy), Wayne Morrison (Charmaine and family), Dean Morrison and many great-nieces and nephews. Beloved sister of Gertrude Weiler of Walkerton and Margaret Durrer and her husband Howard of Guelph.
Predeceased by her parents Joseph John O'Reilly and Catherine Kennedy. Predeceased by her siblings Vera Vollmer and Annetta Tschirhart, Patrick, Catherine MCKenna, Joseph, John and Teddy.
Patrice will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and all her extended family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Brebeuf Catholic Church, 26 Millwood Rd., Erin, on Wednesday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. Followed by Interment in Toronto.

Passed away suddenly on May 5, 2013 in his 91st year.
Henry was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 5 years during the Second World War (1940-1945) and retired from CNR in 1986 after 45 years of service.
He was born in Russia and came to Canada at the age of 2 ½ years old with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rempel of Kitchener, Ontario.
Predeceased by his wife Ritta (2000) and son Randy (1984).
Henry is survived by his two sisters; Mrs. Ilona Tschirhart of Wellesley and Mrs. Irma Blouse of Waterloo.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the RATZ-BECHTEL FUNERAL HOME, 621 King Street West, Kitchener.
As per Henry's wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
Cremation has taken place.

She was only 59.

In his 101st year, Len passed away at St. Mary’s General Hospital at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
Predeceased by his first wife, Freda in 1979 and siblings, Violet, Sidney, Robert, Queenie, Frank, Frederick, Mabel, and Grace.
Len is survived by his sister, Ivy Watson (Vic) and family of Essex, England; his loving wife, Dorothy; son, Peter John and wife Peggy Ann; daughter, Alfrieda; two grandchildren, Lisa Marie and Grant Spencer; and step-children, Lyn and family, David and family, Scott and family, and Rosemary and Scott. Papa to Jennifer, Renée, Amanda, Megan, Scott and Old Papa to Ella, Roselyn, and Jane.
At Len’s request, cremation has taken place.
A private family burial will take place in Waterloo.

With profound sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas Joseph Howitt in his 89th year, at Guelph General Hospital on Saturday, May 4, 2013.
He was the Cherished husband of Kay (Johnson) (Shaheen) Howitt of Guelph. Douglas was the Loving step-father of Wayne Shaheen of Toronto. Fondly remembered by William J. Watts of Toronto.
Predeceased by his brothers and sisters, John, James, Mary, Frank, Angus, Grace, Thomas, and Margaret.
Survived and missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at the Marymount Cemetery, Guelph.

JOLLEY, James Albert 'Jim' -
Passed away peacefully, with family by his side on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Port Colborne Hospital in his 89th year.
Loving husband of the late Sarah Jolley (nee Blick) (2008).
Dear father of Jim (Ruth), Bob (Joyce), Sherri Peazel (Mike). He will be sadly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sister Doreen Long (Norm).
Predeceased by his parents Henry and Florence Jolley, sister Mary, Lily, Peggy, Gwen, Florence (Bunny) and brothers Stanley, Edward, Henry, Sydney and Harold as well as his son-in-law Steve Peazel.
Jim was born August 15, 1924 in Montreal, Québec. Jim served with the RCN during WWII and then became a police officer serving a short period with the Guelph police and then a lifetime with the OPP. “Big Jim” became well known in the North and retired as a Staff Superintendent at GHQ.
In addition to service medals he received the Star of St John Medal from the Governor General for his charitable work with St John’s Ambulance. He is a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Association and the Royal Canadian Legion.
At Jim’s request, a private family service took place in Port Colborne.
The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Port Colborne Hospital 2 south for the care and support they gave Jim in his final days. Special thanks to all of Jim’s friends and neighbours for their support they have extended over the years.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Freeport Health Centre on Saturday May 4, 2013, age 76 years.
Tom was a member of Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, Kitchener and belonged to the Ontario Tug of War Association for over 40years.
Beloved husband of the late Eileen (nee Deutschlander) 1996. Loving father of Dawn and her husband Mark Little of Kitchener. Sadly missed by his loving grandchildren, Hunter, Emma, and Holden.
Dear brother of C. James (Christine), Anita (Ken) Hecktus, Ray (Selma), Ron (Brenda), Peggy, John (Brenda), and brother-in-law of Audrey and Marg. Survived also by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by a brother Joe and his wife Bett; sister Betty and her husband Neil Kennedy, brothers, Bill, Claude, Francis, Gordon, Bob, and Sister Joyce S.S.N.D.
