ANAGNOSTOPOULOS, Angela -
On a Friday she arrived. On a Friday she departed, May 4th, 2012.
Our mother was born in a small mountain village in Messinia, Greece, on the second floor of a house on the main square. Angela was the eldest of five children who adored her siblings Grigoris, Nikos, Chrissoula and Kostas and her many nieces and nephews.
In 1950 she married George, the boy next door, for whom she had waited for seven years to pass and for a war to end. Together, they would have 8 children: Vickie, Betty, Nick, Stan, Catherine, Aris, Robert and Frank. Together, they made the decision to immigrate to Canada, choosing Kitchener-Waterloo to make their new home.
She warmly welcomed Alan Marshall (Vickie), Florence Marino (Robert), Deborah Richmond (Frank), and Mario Paradis (Catherine) into our family. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy: Christina, Kathleen, Alexander, George, André, Adam, Nikolas, Kaylee and Antonia.
Her day would start before dawn and would end after everyone else had gone to sleep. Those hands. They were always busy creating something beautiful or delicious. She was a tremendous cook and baker who loved to share with family or whoever walked into her home. She could make anything grow and loved her vegetable garden and her flowers, especially her colourful, scented roses.
She was a perfectionist who proved good could always be better through hard work and imagination. Her compassion knew no bounds. Everyone else’s needs took priority to her own and she would have it no other way. Her loyalty and integrity guided everything she did. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Her smile lit up the whole room.
We are sincerely grateful for the superb care and attention she received from the staff at The Village of Winston Park. She and we felt she was amongst caring family from her own village.
If she were given four more words to say we are certain they would be “How are the kids?”
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m on Wednesday, May 9th at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 527 Bridgeport Rd., Kitchener, with Father Konstantinos Chatzis officiating.
