O’HALLORAN, Warrant Officer Edward James 'Ted' O'Halloran - Obituary | Print |

O’HALLORAN, Warrant Officer Edward James 'Ted' -

(Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, D-Day Veteran Normandy Beach)

It is with profound sorrow the family announces the passing of a beloved man who gave help and unconditional love to others for 92 years. On April 3, 2014, Ted went to the Lord in angels’ arms, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ted was the precious husband of Hetty O’Halloran (nee Shields) and adored father of Joanne Marie O’Halloran and her husband Michael Bukeman. He was the devoted and loving brother to Michael J. O’Halloran and his wife Sandra and Jess Simmons. Special 'chosen grandad' to Sue Billings and her children Courtney, Brock and Dakota. He is forever a passionately loved hero and beautiful grandad and 'father' to Derek, Brendan and Jimmy O’Halloran. He was predeceased by his parents James and Florence O’Halloran, an older brother Jimmy (Governor General’s Horse Guards, KIA Italy, 1944), his twin sister Marjorie and sisters Shirley, Eileen and Kathleen.

As a stretcher bearer (medic) for five years, overseas, in WWII, Ted administered first aid to the wounded and held his dying comrades in his loving arms. Still giving, he became a paramedic with the Toronto Emergency Medical Services, until retiring at age 70. He never 'retired' from life, always willing; always giving, never questioning and ready for a joke. Grandad always made everything 'all better'.

Deepest thanks to the late Dr. Barry Ehrlich; Dr. Jesse Teitel; Dr. Richard Helyar; and the staff of Guelph General Hospital, Seventh Floor East; Dr. Smith; Dr. Ahmed; Dr. Scullion; City of Guelph EMS for their caring responses and professionalism, especially over the past few years. Blessings and thanks to Fr. Vernon Boyd of Holy Rosary Parish.

Truly an officer and a gentleman and a humble servant, Dad lived his life for others by example in thought and in action. 'If a man does not pursue Honour, Honour will purse him.' Heaven welcomes the newest member of God’s Army. At ease, Dad. Love for ever and ever, Amen.

Funeral on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014 to Holy Rosary Church, 175 Emma St., Guelph, for Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada Association Trust Fund; to the Heart & Stoke Foundation of Ontario, or to the Tourette Syndrome Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
