CARTY, John Michael 'Mike' Carty - Obituary | Print |

CARTY, John Michael 'Mike' -

Carty_John(FCPA, FCA)

Passed away on June 25, 2014 at Pinehaven Nursing Home after a long journey with Lewy Body Dementia.

Cherished husband to Patricia and father to his daughter Pamela, son Patrick and his wife Lynn. Proud grandfather of Alexander, Adam and Ryan Carty. Loving brother to Carol Moran, Diane and Marilyn Carty and Peter Carty. He will also be missed by his sister in-law Maureen Smith and her husband Brian and his nieces and nephews; Patrick, Isabelle, Michelle, Regan, Tara, Adam, Bronwen, Kevin, Gary, Michael and Maureen.

Mike’s career was with Price Waterhouse (PwC) as a Chartered Accountant. He served in their Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener offices. He opened the firm’s office in Kitchener in 1974 and served as its Managing Partner for 16 years. In 1985, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario honoured Mike’s service to his profession and the community by electing him a Fellow of the Institute. The Rotary Club of Kitchener honoured Mike’s service to the club and his community by making him a Paul Harris Fellow. Mike firmly believed in community involvement and served as President or Board Chair of many organizations including The Rotary Club of Kitchener, The Kitchener/Waterloo Art Gallery and The Centre in the Square, Renison University College, HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre, Canadian Institute on International Affairs and the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee of Kitchener. He also had senior responsibilities in several other community organizations. Mike also worked as Chief Financial Officer for candidates in municipal, provincial and federal elections. In later years, Mike derived much enjoyment from the companionship of the ROMEO group of men.

Our heartfelt gratitude to his physicians Dr. Joe Lee of the CFFM and Dr. Linda Lee and her amazing Memory Clinic. Her team of compassionate professionals guided him so carefully and their expertise allowed him to live at home for many years longer than expected. We also want to express our thanks to the caring staff of Pinehaven Nursing Home for their loving care to Mike and his family. He called you his angels.

As Michael faced each of his many challenges the greater was his courage and the gentler his kindness. As his physical existence and speaking skills weakened, his serenity increased, so that in the end, as he let the world go, he did so with gentleness and grace. Thank you for letting us love you. Thank you for letting yourself be loved.

The Funeral Service will be held in Waterloo, on Wednesday, July 2nd. Interment at a later date.

Donations may be made to Renison University College or KidsAbility.
