English AmandaENGLISH, Amanda Marie  - (March 17, 1975August 25, 2018)

It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Amanda Marie English (Littlejohn) from lung disease while awaiting a second double lung transplant on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the age of 43.

She was the most caring and loving mother and wife to the four people she loved most in this world; her children Grace, Peter, and Charlotte, and her husband Alex.

Amanda leaves her devoted parents, Peter and Maureen Littlejohn and twin sister Melissa Hutchings, brother-in-law Shawn, and nephew and niece Nathan and Ellie.

Amanda grew up in Ajax in a loving family, extended family, and circle of friends.

After becoming a Child Life Specialist, she worked at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, finding unique ways to help the children and their families.

After marrying Alex in 2002, they lived in Toronto, then Ajax and finally, Whitby. When she was diagnosed in 2011 with Pulmonary Hypertension, she became active in the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada, running children’s programs at conferences while she fought the disease most courageously.

Amanda never complained, just bravely persevered through different treatments, until she received a lifesaving lung transplant in 2015. She was thankful every day to her donor and her donor’s family as she lived her life to its fullest, continuing to make a lifetime of memories with her family and many close friends.

Amanda has received the best care possible from her family doctor in Ajax and the teams at Toronto General Hospital. Her strength, goodness, passion for learning, and her gentle, sweet nature is one that will never be forgotten.

Services are entrusted to OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 4th from 1 - 3pm, and 6 - 8pm. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, September 5th at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity close to your heart. Please consider these charities that were dear to Amanda’s: Sick Kids Hospital – Child Life, PHACanada, Trillium Gift of Life Network, and Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation – Lung Transplant Research.
