HAMLIN, Joyce Mary Ann  - Died peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on September 16, 2018 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville.

In death, Joyce returns to the side of her cherished husband Chester, who predeceased her in 1989.

Joyce, nee Gulley, was born on August 9, 1933 to Helen (nee Roman) and Jack Michael Gulley.

Joyce had a happy and fulfilling childhood growing up in Leaside.

An ambitious girl with plenty of gumption, Joyce started working for Philips at a young age, and loved every aspect of a working life.

It was also at that company that she met her future husband, Ernest Chester, whom she married on June 12, 1954.

With the birth of her first child in 1955, Joyce made the decision to become a full-time stay at home parent. As with her experience in working at Philips, she was dedicated to her job as a parent, devoting her full attention and spirit to raising her children well. Known by all of her family and friends as a fun person who would never pass up an opportunity to laugh, she passed along her enjoyment of life and infectious sense of humor to her children. Joyce is survived by her children Yvonne (Harold), Joanne (the late Ed), Diane (Glen) and John (Andrea) as well as her sister Elsie.

Joyce will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren Graham (Jennifer), Natalie (Robert), Peter (Trisha), Danielle (Rob), Mackenzie (Dylan), Lillian (Alex), Robert, Jane, Claire and Peter, her niece Janet and her special friend John Ellwood.

An animal lover her whole life, she also leaves behind her furry companion, Buttons.

Joyce leaves a legacy of being a wonderful parent and grandparent, of her generosity of spirit, and of the many happy memories she brought to everyone she met.

A Private Family Service is being held.  Memorial Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
