SARLES, Helen Florence (Carruthers)  -  Sadly, Helen Florence Sarles (Carruthers) passed away peacefully in her sleep in Pickering at Orchard Villa on Saturday, August 10th, 2019 in her 100th year after a lengthy illness.

She was born and raised on the family farm in Haldimand Township, east of Cobourg on April 7th, 1920, the third child of the late Neil and Sarah Carruthers.

She is predeceased by her husband Carman, her siblings Jean Stewart, Gordon (the late Grace), Isabella (the late Douglas Randall), Donald, and her grandson Michael. She is survived by her 2 sons, Gordon (Gayle) of Richmond Hill, ON and David (Marta) of Calgary, AB, her granddaughter Cera, grandson Thomas (Tom), great granddaughter Jordyn, sister-in-law Betty Carruthers, brother-in-law Ronald Stewart and many nephews and nieces.

Helen deeply loved all her family and friends: they all brought her great joy and love. Her deep faith in her church sustained her through many difficult times throughout her life.

She volunteered at both the Whitby Hospital with her husband Carman and Fairview Lodge where her infectious smile and cheery disposition gave comfort to many. Our family would like to thank all who supported and cared for mom through her last years.

Visitation will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home, on Friday, August 30th from 5 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at GROVESIDE CEMETERY, Whitby.

Memorial donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or the MS Society would be greatly appreciated
