Gonta StephenGONTA, Stephen 'Steve'  – (General Motors Retiree) - Peacefully on Monday December 16, 2019 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 91.

Steve, beloved husband for 68 years of Mable Gonta (nee Bilous).

Much loved father of Danny Gonta and Peter Gonta (Christina). 

Loved Gido of Ethan.

Dear brother of Mary Lucyk (late Walter) and brother-in-law of Walter (Doris) and the late Ann (the late Bill).

Steve worked many years at General Motors as a carpenter then went on to teach Building Construction at General Vanier High School in Oshawa.

Steve was an accomplished family man. As a carpenter he used his skills to build houses with his father, including their own homes.

He had many hobbies over the years, such as astronomy, astrophotography, photography, masonry, automotive maintenance and computer literacy as a senior.

He loved to travel with family by car, to places like California, Florida, British Columbia and the Maritimes.

Steve did volunteer work for St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and St. Vladimir Institute. He belonged to TYC/Ukrainian Self-Reliance Association of Canada.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

Friends may call at the  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Sunday December 22nd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Panachyda at 7pm.

A funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 31 Bloor Street East, Oshawa on Monday December 23rd at 10am. Interment Oshawa Union Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the church or the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region would be greatly appreciated.
