Rowland EleanorROWLAND, Eleanor Mabel (Smith) - (June 18th, 1946 - July 18th, 2020)

Passed away July 18, 2020 in her 75th year.

Eleanor was born in Powassan, Ontario on June 18, 1946, the youngest of 7 children.

Her first years of school were in a one room schoolhouse. She later attended Powassan High School with thoughts of being a teacher. After also considering a career as an airline ticket attendant, she decided on a career in banking.

Eleanor met her future husband Mike through a co-worker, who thought they would make a great couple.

She was right! They were married in North Bay on October 12, 1968 and that was the start of their wonderful life together. This fall would have marked 52 years together.

When their first child, Karen, was born, Eleanor became a stay at home mom.

A few years later Lisa was born, and the family was complete. Eleanor loved raising her daughters and being home with them. As the girls became teenagers, Eleanor went back to work for a while.

Once the first grandchild arrived, she retired for good. Mike joined her in retirement in 2008.  Mike and Eleanor have many cherished memories of travelling, and spending time together on their daily walks.  Eleanor spent her adult life actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She served in a variety of ways, and particularly loved serving in the temple.

Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by her husband Mike, their children Karen Rowland and Lisa (Graham) Wing. Eleanor will also be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren, Colton, Andrew, Melanie, Matthew, Courtney, and Christine.

Predeceased by her parents Thelma Dallyn and Merritt Smith, sisters Jean (Adam) Veitch, Shirley (John) Dutchik, Fay (Keith) Keuhl and brother William. Survived by brothers James and Herbert.

Service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020. We know that there are many who would have wanted to attend her service and be with our family at this time.

Due to the current pandemic restrictions it’s necessary for us to request that her funeral attendance is by invitation only. Interment will follow at GROVESIDE CEMETERY, Brooklin.

Thank you to BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME and members of the Oshawa Ward for their support.

In memory of Eleanor, memorial donations to Thyroid Cancer Canada or a CHARITY of your choice would be appreciated.
