NORQUAY, Moira - (November 17, 1928 - July 28, 2020)

The Norquay family is sad to announce the passing of Moira Norquay (née McCracken) at Lakeridge Health, Ajax-Pickering Site, Tuesday July 28, 2020 at the age of 91.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Sheila (Gordon Black) of Ottawa and son, David (The late Sharon Van Alstyne), of Ajax.

She is also survived by granddaughters Taylor and Keira and nieces Debby Stevens (Andy) and Ann Brown (Dan). She is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Amy (née Flack), brother Hal (Blanche), sister, Joy Rodmell (Roy) sister-in-law Dorothy (Dot). Moira was born in Sudbury, ON November 17, 1928.

She attended Alexander Public School and Sudbury Secondary School, meeting her future husband of 54 years, Tom, at Sunday School.

Moira and Tom, and daughter Sheila, began a far northern adventure when Tom took an engineering post at the newly developed nickel mine in Thompson, Mb, over 700km north of Winnipeg, in 1959.

A few years after Tom’s death in 2007, Moira located to Pickering and then Ajax, enjoying the life and activities of retirement communities.

Her last year was spent at a long-term care facility in Pickering where her strength shone through, beating a positive COVID-19 diagnosis at 91 years of age.

She dearly loved and was very proud of both her granddaughters, Taylor and Keira.

Moira will be missed dearly by family and friends alike, including her good friend Doreen Naylor.

It was her wish for no service. Cremation will occur, with interment at a later date, alongside Tom in Sudbury.

Charitable donations in Moira’s name may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
