MURPHY, Douglas George - (September 14, 1938 – November 16, 2020)
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas Murphy with family by his side at home on November 16, 2020 in Courtice, Ontario.
Beloved spouse of Helen (McIlvanney) and loving mother of Connie and Dean. A very proud Papa to his only grandchild, Rachel Greentree (Murphy).
Predeceased by his parents George Murphy and Hazel Murphy, his sisters Elaine, Marjorie, Joan and Audrey and brothers Gerard and Kevin.
Survived by his sisters Lena and Lois and brother Tom.
Fondly remembered by his extended family, their husbands, wives and children and much loved by his nieces and nephews.
As a young boy of 14, Doug attended St Mary’s College in Brockville, Ontario with the intention of becoming a Priest. After 4 years of study and a change of heart – he left and went to work in Baie Comeau, Quebec. There he met the love of his life (Helen) whom he married in 1959 and had children.
Doug was a kind hearted, selfless father and Papa. He was a loyal and compassionate friend to many. Doug was a member of the Knights of Columbus Charity Organization for 57 years where he donated much of his time helping others and making many good friendships.
Thank you to all the family and friends who supported Doug during his illness. That meant so much to him. A special heartfelt thank you to the Palliative Care Team and Dr. Vincent Ho at Lakeridge Health in Durham. Your compassion and attention during this time was unforgettable.
Visitation will be held at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, (905-432-8484) on Thursday November 19th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Visitation is by family invite only, please arrive for your designated time.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 373 Simcoe St. S, Oshawa, on Friday November 20th at 11 a.m. Due to the maximum capacity of 100 people in the church, our family requests our friends to select one individual from their family to represent in attendance.
